that's not a brag btw. it's how absurdly difficult i've found i/i thus far. been trying to hammer away at this wall with a toothpick for a while now.

I'll be doing some I/I after this run. I'll be happy if I make it to month 3.
Damn. Not many gaming moments have ever driven me so close to rage as losing my oldest Colonel soldier to a 97% missed shot followed by a lucky alien crit.
arghhhhhh was doing pretty well in month 2 of i/i. had several ranked soldiers, a bunch of plasma rifles through capture just waiting for research to finish, and not being able to hit a 67% shot ends both terror mission and my game.
restart time
That first terror mission is such a crap shoot based on the map.
I'm playing on Normal. This game Is still hard as fuck
On all difficulties you should start like this.
Choose base
Do 1st mission
Set research
Excavate the right area of the access tunnel.
Go to geoscape
Get mission for Engineers
Finish mission
Build 1-2 Satellites.
etc
And deploy first 2 sats to south america for instant 2nd continent bonus.
It's difficult to say what nation you should launch satellites in. Sometimes its good to go with Russia and the US because they pay the most, but sometimes you need to launch a satellite in a different continent to preserve the continent bonus. In other words, no Strat is best-- you gotta look at all the Panic levels and go from there.
just lost a great setup to over-aggro
i/i makes me want to jump facedown into bed and cry and wail into my pillow for an hour straight
Just had my Colonel Heavy I was trying to get the "survive every mission" achievement die on bomb disposal mission, I moved him too far by himself to disarm bomb nodes and he aggro'd 3 groups of 3 thin men, the 9th one finally killed him... cry.
Aaand the fun's over. One turn into the first terror mission and three of my guys are dead because doing 3 damage a shot to a Cryssalid isn't gonna fly. Trying again.
lol what difficulty?

If the road to Cydonia is DLC, then I'm going to be pissed.
Just beat the game, and while the story is the weakest part about this game,Spoiler: show
Like this game, but at least on the pc version, I don't see myself wanting to play again. Just don't find the combat that fun with out a drive to continue the plot or something.
finally broke through the wall a couple days ago in i/i.
had some really close calls and some brutal losses. from the beginning planned on doing mass assaults and had a great start, but lost my best one and all my heavies in a terror mission. was about to just hit the reset button but i figured who knows, give it a shot. the very next mission i had to go in with my last two ranked soldiers (a corporal sniper and support) and 4 rookies. ended up losing the support and 4 rookies, and it came down to a 1v1 with the sniper vs. an outsider who, thankfully, missed his shot giving me the kill the next turn.
was all uphill from there except for a disaster of a terror mission where i lost a bunch of backups i was trying to level. really smooth sailing otherwise.
this is my squad before my last mission, where i ended up losing the support. that one really hurt cause he was the only high-ranked one that i had. i'm actually semi-depressed and i don't want to even play anymore tonight, lol
Spoiler: show
probably just gonna get my next guy up to the triple med pack skill and finish the game.
-1 Assault + 1 Heavy! :D Get rid of those robotic units fast.
