Random question, but what about format issues? Unless they move on with digital downloads rather than HD/Blu Ray discs, wouldn't the format for which the games are released limit developers or would it not be such a big deal to have games take up 4 discs.... What about that new disc format that has like 4 layers or some shit? I only ask this, because supposedly developers haven't even reached the full power of the PS3 yet, let alone a PS4...

Just look at the current gen, aren't there a few multiplatform games that are multi-disk on the 360 that are just 1 disk for PS3? I have a friend who picked up Rage, and I think that was 3 disks for 360?

Also.. wtf are you people with dying systems doing to kill your systems?? I've never had a system die. All my systems, including my original NES are all running strong. Only thing I've ever had to change is putting in a larger HD in my PS3.

Multiple disks is not very attractive, either. It would be nearly impossible to make an open world seamless game on 1 disc (I'm assuming). I know battlefield has a disc for multiplayer and for single player (iirc) on xbox, FFXIII had like 3 discs (we know how open world that game was), I don't know about rage. If the 720 or w/e (stupid fucking name), was significantly stronger than the 360, for anything with some amazing cinematics/graphics (FFXIII, thought it was a beautiful game) and some seamless open world, it'd become ridiculous--if they stuck with the HD DVD format. This is just how I think it is, I'm not sure how accurate I actually am.

Well, FFXI killed my 360's disk drive due to the disk spinning the whole time I was playing for up to 12 hours at a time. My girlfriend keeps good care of her electronics and her Halo 3 360 just kicked the bucket about four or so months ago. Then again I think that was back with the faulty heat sink glue problem was rampant.

Well, disc based systems are much more susceptible to dying due to the fact that they have moving parts and generate much more heat that needs to be dealt with. I think a big factor in those systems dying is not giving it enough room to be properly ventilated causing it to over heat. Cramming your system into an enclosed cabinet, or blocking the exhaust ports for the heat fan is one of the worst things you can do to a system. That being said I've never had any of my systems die on me either...

I just want someone to start working Valve more so we can Steamworks integrated into all our multiplayers games. It was pretty awesome to be able to cross platform co-op Portal 2 when my friends had it on only PS3 or PC.

Fuck if I know. I always make sure my consoles have enough space around them for ventilation and I clean them regurlary for dust. Yet my first (full BC) PS3 hit the can with a YLOD after a few months of purchase, was before YLOD was even a used term. I have killed the laser unit of a Gamecube and a Dreamcast after a few years of service. My 360 starting showing the signs you get before the shit will RRoD on you after 5 years of service (surprised the launch unit held out so long).

I got a new (full BC) PS3 to replace it, could probably fix the PS3 with the current knowledge about YLOD. Bought a new Xbox, bought a new laser unit for a few bucks for my Dreamcast and my orange Cube is still fucked :/

Not very rare problems, afaik due to laws Sony and MS can't use certain materials in their soldering, which is the cause for alot of the RRoD's and YLOD's and laser units tend to hit the crapper sooner or later.

As far as the media goes, I think it would be interesting to have a single format that all consoles can use, aka anything with USB. I'm not sure if there will be issues with piracy, but I'm sure it would be no different than things are now.
I don't think piracy will be that much more common with USB or FLASH drives instead of Blue-Ray discs. I actually think they would reduce, as it would make them more accessible . Besides; you could also give the USB drive whatever shape you want for the game; so it would be more fun to have - especially as a collector.

Look at services like Steam, Spotify etc. Companies were worried that they would increase piracy since they made it more easily accessible. But if anything, these services reduced piracy for that very reason.

Some companies still can't get that making things more convenient for consumers means that they will likely buy the product. There are a few cases where going out of your way to purchase the game, jump through some hoops, all just to play it is cumbersome and just leaves people saying "fuck this gonna pirate it." Not because they intended to pirated it but because it was a fuckton more accessible.

Lemme one click purchase any game from wherever then play immediately and you will see pirating decrease.

But that disc detail could be far less impactful to the next generation of game consoles than the assertion I've heard from one reliable industry source that Microsoft intends to incorporate some sort of anti-used game system as part of their so-called Xbox 720.
    lol wow

    Fuck Xbox 720.

Honestly, if you don't want to support the company that made it, just pirate them. Buying used games is kind of silly.

This is retarded. You wouldn't even be able to lend a game to your friends if such thing is put in place. Well...unless they include a way to share your games to another user in your friendlist...but they probably aren't that clever.

That's not entirely correct. Buying used game does increase the demands (take a copy out of the circulation), and because of that, the value of the game is increased.

It's not demand for the same product however, cause the price will always be lower then a new copy.

When used copies price raise too much, people will simply pay whatever is the difference for a brand new copy instead.

Obviously, certain people don't care and will go systematically for the lowest price, but I'm not sure it's everyone.

Same product, lower price. Assuming the console doesn't cock block you like the rumors say, why would you pay a higher price?

Those that do would be in the minority, but that's just my educated guess...
