that doesnt accurately reflect the number of consoles with access to internet though which can be easily remedied in 30 seconds, putting it upwards of 80%

Because only fancy people have internet. Are you serious? Who the fuck owns a ps3 and doesn't have wireless in their house? It's a non-problem.They'd lose out on a ridiculous amount of sales. Not every has their Consoles connected to the internet.
Those without wireless can't afford a current gen, let alone next gen, console. If you didn't get a wireless router for free with your internet connection then it can cost as little as 20 dollars to buy one.Wireless? Not nearly as many as you think
Next you're going to tell me that nobody is going to buy a ps4 because it requires a tv or monitor to use.
As if you can't tell that the real issue with a constant internet connection is the forced updates and anti-piracy countermeasures.
Even so, internet connections are a recurring cost. It's much cheaper to just buy a console once than it is to pay for internet throughout its lifetime.
Fuck needing a permament connection. If i'm playing an offline game like Skyrim sometimes i like nothing more than to play offline so i don't get "so and so is online" every 5 minutes. Although it's worse when your watching a movie.
Both Sony and MS would be dumb to not at least give people a choice on the matter.
doing this stupid bullshit with the online registration, resale passes, digital copies blah blah blah is a 100% surefire way to make sure
*I don't buy your system until someone hacks it
*I never pay for a single game so long as I own the system
Game companies need to stop treating customers like parolees and realize the problem is their stupid business model. Not everything needs to be a new IP with 10 sequels. Not everything needs to push the envelope graphically. Not everything needs to nickel-and-dime players with lameass paid DLC, or have shoehorned multiplayer, or an immense budget to pay for celebrity voiceovers. Not everything needs to be $60. They need to stop remaking old games and make new games like they used to.
I'll probably retire from gaming if that used game bullshit winds up being true. Typically, I buy a game then play it until I'm bored of it. Once I am, I trade it in and use the monies to get something else. Especially if Gamestop is running a 50% bonus trade in value promo. Hell, I paid $60 for Black Ops last year, then traded it in during a promo and walked out with $45 credit. I'm not one to build a massive collection then go back and play through an old game a bunch of times, especially with this generations games. Why the shit would I want to have every Call of Duty game in a generation if I'm playing the most recent one (just using COD as an example)? If I'm not able to do that (or even rent games) then fuck it. Games are already $60 new as it is, and the price will most likely go up next gen.
Good thing Nintendo is too dumb to pull this crap with the Wii U
You mean thank god Nintendo doesn't like to fuck over the fans?
lol Fancy people. No I do agree with this sentiment though, has to be a huge percentage of us that have a perfectly acceptable net connection and could be online constantly while playing just fine. My argument is simply that I don't want to be FORCED to be online to play, because phone/internet/cable blackouts happen, PSN does go down. Someone mentioned those 2 months when PSN was totally fucked. 2 months without playing anything is a disaster for a company.
Registration, eh, that's fine with me. Constant connection is dumb, and its stupid.. and its stupid, and its dumb.
My biggest fear with this (not so much on Sony's end) is the brobox will require a gold membership to access games. So in order to play any new games I will have to pay for monthly internet and XBL just to play an offline game that I already paid $60 bucks for.
1. Buy PS3.people do buy them without internet
2. Buy PS3 Game.
3. Don't play it because you can't upgrade your firmware.
4. ???
5. Profit?
Even if you don't currently have wireless, it'll cost you 1/3 of a new game to get it. For the record I think they idea of needing a constant internet connection to play an offline game is absolutely retarded.
