I only played WoW for a short time but it never came off as a game where number crunching was as pivotal as it was in FFXI. I felt like positioning, movement and good timing were what determined the tide of victory in most fights. Compare that FFXI where number crunching made a hell of a difference in your damage. I could be wrong, as I stated I didn't play WoW for a long time. Mostly during Wrath of the Lich King.

All it takes is know how, and the want to do better than the other pieces of shit rogues.
    which boss?

Positioning movement and good timing made as much of a difference in WoW as it did in XIV. Hit Ixion from the back, stand on faffy's paws, stunning shit, moving around at different phases, etc. But you're right about number crunching makes less of a difference in WoW because no one cares.

Uhhh I haven't been to the site in ages, but Elitist Jerks was a good place to get information on how to play your class well if you don't know of that site.

Good, long description of everything you need to know about gearing and rotations for combat rogues right there.

I guess I didn't read your post all the way through, you did mention the site. But I honestly never had a problem getting top parses following the information as told by the mathematicians on that site. Once you see the difference after testing shit out on the dummies, you can take it away from there.
