My dad voted for Bush twice and McCain (I think). No idea who he voted for in the 90s but he hated Clinton. He's not pro-Israel but when I brought up the treatment of the Palestinians, he mentioned how white people in South Africa are being attacked by blacks and so there's no point in getting worked up over X/Y/Z conflict since around the world, there's always some group getting a raw deal (even white people, which was the point of mentioning South Africa, according to him). He's definitely an American nationalist but I wouldn't say he's pro-war or anything.

We don't talk politics often but the few times we have, he definitely parrots the Limbaugh mentality and 'liberal media this/that'.

All of my family, immediate and extended, came from poor villages in India and 'made it' here so I don't find it surprising that they might have a cynical attitude toward dissent and a simultaneous idealistic attitude toward the American dream.

And of course, I'm overthinking this but no one in my family is particularly vocal about their politics. You'd have to go out of your way to talk to them about it.

I like how someone on NPR put it on my way home from work--Newt is the "what goes up must come down" candidate. He's been up and down how many times now? Whether the down will be after the nomination or not....well, we'll see.
