I'm still waiting for the time he says outright that the Constitution is destroying this country. He's beating around the bush but hasn't built up the gall to just come out and say it.
I assume we're talking about perm, I had to block him because he was worse than Solanis in a Palestine thread - at life.
HE'S JUST ASKING QUESTIONS GUYS
santorum: wants small government but thinks government should be all up in everyone's business
It's not that they're hypocrites, it's that we misunderstand what conservatives mean. When they say small government, they mean some parts of government should be small, while they wish to make others larger. We shouldn't get it twisted. The average american conservative is not an anarcho-capitalist and even the libertarian loves certain parts of government, particularly the ones that protect their precious property rights.
Um, property rights are probably the most fundamental to a prosperous society. You want to spend money on all your social programs you need a prosperous private sector. And hell, the only purpose of a federal govt., as ours was intended, is to protect rights.
See what i mean?
This has never been an argument about small government vs. big government. This has always been a debate about the role of government and what parts of government are most valuable.
Liberals should understand that government is used to pick the winners and losers in society, and conservatives understand this well.
Who has disputed that? Although, I think your nearly into semantics territory. The obvious side effect is a smaller government.
so by that logic, what goes on in my bedroom is far more deserving of regulation than what goes on in the corporate sector that drives our economy, according to standard conservative thinking.
fair enough.
The phrases: small and big government are phrases used by people who, lacking the intelligence to speak with precision, rely instead on soundbites. Those words are also smokescreens.
Liberals should understand that when conservatives like Santorum talk like that, they're not contradicting themselves. Let's forget for a moment that conservatives do not care about contradicting themselves and they do not give any shits that liberals like you guys think they're illogical or crazy sounding. They don't contradict themselves, because setting up the market so it benefits those with the highest income does not exclude wanting the biggest military in the world.
It is perfectly logical. They value your privacy less than they value the worth of a CEO. You're gay, and he's rich. The battle lines are perfectly clear.
a monarchy is the logical conclusion of shrinking government.
and surely the king won't be paying taxes to himself, but will probably tell you who you can and can't fuck.
When they say small government, they mean "except for the parts that keep out immigrants, force 'family values' on the population [no gays], and bomb terrorists"
