I think this was the last year he could pretend to be a contender.

He is a 76 year old congressman from Texas, which makes him the same age as John McCain. He'll be 77 by this election and 81 by the next election. The actuarial tables are not kind to him. Something is going to break.

If he gets 500 delegates it will actually be really impressive, even if he loses the nomination. I don't know how the % of delegates affects you besides needing the 1,144 to secure the nomination. If he secures 20% will he have leverage to affect GOP policy? If so, not a total loss. If he could just get Romney to talk about issues that are actually important in the upcoming presidential debates it will be a win (a much lesser win, but still a win!).

I'm fairly sure now that Romney is above 50%, everything else is irrelevant. If the other candidates had stayed in and it ended up a 40/20/20/20 split or something, then all hell could've broken loose at the convention.
