Court of Owls had a shit ending too.

And from what I'm seeing around the internet, the various "professional" reviewers are pretty much all giving Batman #17 a perfect score. Wonder how much DC burned paying them all off.

I lurked around the CBR forums (which I never do but 17 had me curious) and someone said the <redacted> 10/10 reviewer is a personal friend of Snyder haha. Idk- I think people got hypnotized by the whole love affair thing, and that the art is great. I loved the flies hanging around Joker the whole time.

I still think Snyder is really good. Rotworld whimpered out ( I still haven't read last weeks Animal Man / Swamp Thing b/c of Rotworld's mehness ) but Severed was amazing and I did enjoy the Court of Owls a lot. His Batman is great when he uses narration a lot.. especially when it's about Gotham. Gates of Gotham... issue one of Batman as well. Maybe Gotham's secret history is more interesting than Batman's comicbooky past at this point.

Having met Scott Snyder, he is a really nice guy. I'm sure he is friendly with lots of people(I know he is with comicvine for example). I get the ending of death of the family as far as storyline goes(none of the other characters trust Batman now) but I dont like why they dont(they believe Joker?).

They are upset he doesn't confide in them, and the Joker thing is a sheer result of that. It was also probably pretty traumatizing.

They've all known Batman for years. They know how he is, so not confiding in them should not be surprising.
As for it being traumatizing, a lot of them have been through much worse(Jason and Barbera specifically), so I don't buy they would be moping around because of it.

I completely agree Delirium. I am a bit let down after 17. Snyder is great and a recent Comicvine podcast that had him on, and the way he discussed the conclusion (and his plans for what's next), really overhyped it for me I guess. It was good, just not exactly what I was expecting.

The rest of the "family" is butt hurt and won't talk to Batman, and Joker falls off a cliff never to be heard again for the next few months. Little more involved then that, but not by much. Everyone is completely fine except for apparent trust issues because these characters haven't ever been in pain or under duress while working alongside Batman. Or you know, been paralyzed, beat to death with a crowbar, have their parents murdered in front of them, be trained from birth to be an unstoppable killing machine, etc.

To be perfectly honest, in a bubble it's a pretty good comic, but considering all the hype surrounding this storyline, it was a gigantic heap of bantha fodder.

The entire set up to the conclusion of 17 was just all for naught. Will Alfred be killed or severely mutilated??? No. Did all the bat-babbys lose their faces??? No. Did Batman appear to Joker as Bruce Wayne and show to him that he was Batman??? Stupidly yes. Did Batman and Joker almost have sex up until Joker jumped down the ravine? Pretty much. Did the Joker turn into a fly? I hope so!

Haven't tried Wolverine again yet but the changes look like they would probably make a nice change to him. Able to protect and counterattack now with the chance increasing based on his health(higher his health the higher the chance of protect, lower the health the higher the counter chance). His level 6 ability removes protect effects now, level 9 can stun and is stealthy. His brown and tan costume also adds the chance to get another attack when his protect or counter ability procs.

Soooo back to comics. (I played the Avengers FB game for a couple months but decided to stop a while back)

So I buy like 5 books a week and read 20 others via the interwebs. (I used to buy 15~ a week and will go back to that after grad school)

What would be your guys' Top 5 ongoing current books you're reading? With maybe a shout out to best mini currently.

1. SAGA: CAUSE
2. The Walking Dead : Even with the Hypemachine, it's the comic that made me care about comics again and is the most addict comic book ever. Freeze me now so I can read the next 5 years uninterrupted.
3. Avengers: God I love Hickman. I'm on board completely. So far I've enjoyed the set-up arch and the slow down origin issues. I usually frowny-face over the Marvel double-triple shipping schedule, but this book could come out once a week and I would hand over my 3.19. (DISCOUNT YO)
4. Manhattan Projects: See above. I love his revisionist history shit, and the art is a perfect compliment. (I need to see if that SHIELD v2 ever finally came out in trade after it disappeared from the single issues.)
5. Thor: God of Thunder: Aaron has killed it. Barely in and I put it over other books I love. Esad Ribic and Avenger's Opena are probably my favorite realistic artists.
6. Wonder Woman: By far the most underrated and unhyped DC book. Batman is good, but what Brian Azzarello is doing with the Greek gods is a whole lot of fun and completely separate from the rest of the DC blarghverse.
Honorable Mention: Deadpool (YAY WAY IS GONE AND ITS GOOD AND FUNNY), REVIVAL (IT'S FARGO WITH STRANGE SCIFI SHIT 'REAL GOOD')
