Also japanese made, but what was the name of that futuristic action/shooter game? It even had a scoring system like DMC, it was a pretty sweet game.

So Vanquish wasn't an action game?
That game looked sweet, was it worth buying?
That was Vanquish.
Vanquish is fantastic, but 1) it's like...one exception lol, and it's from Platinum whose main game is a DMC game; 2) it's a shooter.
For the price, absolutely. It's really short but it only ran be like $11 to keep it from gamefly.
I know this, it's sad but pure action games rarely ever pull in the numbers needed to match FPS games in the west. Even the best selling action game probably pales in comparison to a lot of TPS/FPS titles. Generally though, the best action games I've played have been Japanese.
I consider it one, even though you primarily shot things you had all the mechanics, speed, fluidity and movement needed for pure action (as well as a lot of style and crazy shit). You can play Vanquish like a TPS and it'll holds up (not nearly as well as a real shooter though), but you'll never really enjoy it unless you play it as an action game. The worst parts of Vanquish are the parts that force you to play it like a TPS/FPS (like the shitty sniping section). I guess in the end it's a hybrid, though leaning more towards action than shooting.
EDIT: Of course, that's assuming everyone plays the same way which they don't. I know people who play Vanquish like a TPS and use the mechanics to further help that. They're surprised when I play really aggressively to get the same thing done much faster.
It's also worth saying that Mass Effect could be like Vanquish if the movement options were different and the speed was increased a bit (and it was more fluid and less rigid), but Mass Effect as it is currently stands as more of a shooter and as a shooter it's better than Vanquish is.
I played the demo, shit was mad fun and semi-difficult. Demo should be up on PSN somewhere to try it out.
Yeah I got it for 12 euros and I think it was worth it. Short but had replay value.
The story was funny, but I'm not sure if I was supposed to look at it as a parody of western shooters.
Co-signed on Vanquish. I buy and sell a lot of games and that's one of the games I'd buy again for keeps. I sincerely hope they make a sequel since the ending alludes to the possibility.
FFXII's story and character development made a hell of a lot more sense once it finally clicked that the game's entire storyline was a huge, drawn out homage to Star Wars IV-VI. Vaan is a pussy because Luke Skywalker was a pussy. Ashe is badass because Leia was badass. Balthier? Han fucking Solo, they even got the former Imperial officer part down pat. Fran? Chewie with boobs, because the JP require boobs on their animals. It's also part of why it has no shitty J-romance subplot. I never understood who Penelo was supposed to represent, though. I guess they had to cave somewhere and appeal to the JP "Childhood friend" fetish. At least she managed to stay a woefully unimportant character throughout the game.
the worst part about FFXII was that I had to play it with the sound off any time Penelo was in my group so I didn't have to explain why it sounded like a 13 year old was getting violated in my room
Roy you my boy.
I hated xii's story and characters. They were both boring as fuck and none of the characters were interesting even a little bit. The gameplay, sidequests, leveling up, etc. were all really well done and I enjoyed them. I even enjoyed the combat as boring as it may be. But when I play an RPG, I expect to be entertained by the story and actually care about any of the characters. These things are supposed to motivate me to do those other things.
Why do you all hate star wars so much![]()
Agreed, the sidequests and levelling system were ok. The combat system was new and exciting until about 10 hours in when I realized I could make the game play itself, at which point until I tried some of the harder optional bosses, all I did was use the analog sticks to walk around, and that was the entire game.
Like I said, it was the step that led to the abomination that was XIII, which is why I will never appreciate it as a game because it allowed SE to get away with that shit.
Another FF bitching thread? lol
Fine then. I hate FF2.
Rockstar, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica studios for NA games in no specific order.
yeah guess I'm not sure how I didn't include Dude Raider lol
