The ONLY thing that bothers me about any of your comments is that. "Tera has the same old boring humans." When TOR is...nothing...but...humans... NOTHING. Chiss? Human. Sith, I've seen humans with body modifications that probably look similar(oh, and red skin). Cyborgs.... really? REALLY? Twiliki(w/e sp). Humans with giant ass tumors.
I kinda agree about the pedo thing but I don't really care enough to... care that much.
In your critique of the game, Elin were a mere aside compared to the other issues you brought up. Forgive me for not realizing that you couldn't get past level ten because of your morality. Why did you even both downloading and playing the game? I'm sure you knew about Elin and the alleged IP theft before you downloaded the game. So your moral standing allows sampling of a product produced by thieves and promotors of child pornography but not an extended play through?
Back on topic: I am utterly amazed that a modern writer would claim Rowling and Meyer as writers to be inspired by compared to more sophisticated (but less widely read) writers. I can totally see an author writing more in that style to sell better, but not openly admitting to their shameful behavior.
From what I understand, that quote is a fake. I'll eat my words if anyone can find source. But I think everything else is true about her. She does like Twilight though but I don't think she ever said that quote about the other writers.
Here is the citation for the first quote: http://www.screenjabber.com/dragon-age-2-ps3-review
Here is the second citation from the DA2 wiki: http://dragonage.wikia.com/index.php...20120212054434
I don't care about the relationships anyone has with anything, but it does show a warped sense of writing style and perhaps an extreme level of hubris and self-importance.
She also does nothing but reinforce negative stereotypes about women in gaming, this is especially disturbing considering the fact that those negative stereotypes are actually starting to break down internally within the adult gaming community.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if someone in the Bioware chain of command deliberately picked writers who are Twilight/etc fans, and support working those kinds of plots in, in an attempt to appeal to new audiences. Of course, the trick would then be to have them actually play the game instead of just read more shitty, pandering books.
Not like the story in SWTOR is the terrible part. Kinda have to agree with the fast-forward button part for SWTOR - the tedious gameplay is what drove me away, not the (admittedly not stellar) story. Normally I burn through Bioware games, but I got to the point where I could barely play for an hour before getting completely bored, and that wasn't the fault of the writing.
Here is the citation for the third quote but I believe it is at best paraphrased because it definitely doesn't have the "some old white guys" quote but it definitely is not encouraging and definitely factors into the problems I was talking about before: http://web.archive.org/web/200611292...ennifer_hepler
That site is now defunct sadly.
I will keep looking for the "some old white guys" quote.
I looked through that and she cites GRRM as a favorite writer and Rowlings and Meyer were not listed. She said most of her favorites were female scifi/fantasy writers. Would seem that the quote could be made up. Reading through her comments on homosexuality and seeing her picture makes me think BW unleashed an unabashed slashfic writer on the gaming universe.
yeah thats what I meant, but i'm serious about the Elin thing, it fucking scares me what people can get away with. I know the statement was harsh but its how I feel about it. I tried it out of good faith hoping it would make my opinion take a 180, as its happened before with other things, but instead i just found examples to reinforce what I had already speculated to be true. It just isn't for me, plain and simple.
anyway, about the writer thing, it doesn't really surprise me at all. I'm sure there are plenty of employees of video game devs who aren't that passionate about their work. To some it could very well be just another job, and with writers I can definitely see that. How many english majors are going to play video games in their spare time rather than reading a book? Its a problem, and its sad to see it out in the open like this.
Wow, so criminals made TERA's Elin? Seriously? That's the conclusion that you're coming to? Just a bunch of pedo convicts all sitting on the board of directors. Sweet.
Whelp, I'm sure you just lost the last possible defender you could have had up to this point.
Protip: I'd edit your post if I were you, but wait, I've got it here in its original form, so... shit.
This is true. It would be very sad if she looks up to them artistically. Understandable if she looks up to them commercially. All I know is if I were hiring a writer and I asked them who influenced their work and they answered "Rowling and Meyer," they would have to show themselves out because I would be dying of laughter.
As far as the Elin thing, I guess welcome to Asian culture. Not that this sort of thing is exclusive to them. They are just more open about it. Reminds me of the Disney episode of South Park.
M.I.T.H.: Operation Smoking Jaguar
Look it up. It's the book Jennifer (Hamburger Helper) Hepler wrote. This is a sample of Bioware's quality writing team. Enjoy.
All MMOs cover horrible body types with end game loot.
