why is SWTOR to blame for blizzard? get out of ma thread!
Game companies need to either learn how to properly shoot a human being who's talking to a camera or stop trying to put people in their promo vids... seriously, wtf is he looking at?
Lol... that's sad. 1.3 looks like a wash.
Those transfers better not cost anything.
I hate to say it, but they will.
Also, I'm really sad to see absolutely no new content outside of more legacy stuff. Granted, they're some nice options and bumps to leveling but those of us who have been on/off playing since release don't need those atm. We're more than likely level 50 and have already found 100 ways to beat the new FP and Op. I'm glad new content is "down the road" and I understand there's time in development but that's gunna hurt a lot. The augment tables and etc are going to do nothing but further buff people against existing content, add polish that could've been done prior or held off on and then when they DO drop new stuff, most of it will be obsolete for the new tier of stuff. Hell, I'm fine with content and no new tier sets. Just give us new shit to do that isn't Black Hole (which doesn't take long) or a single new instance. That's all I ask for. I dislike the "Coming soon" spin on release even less.
I try to love you swtor, I try....
The way they described transfers is that some will cost money, some won't. Something like servers A B C D E F and G can all transfer to server X for free. They have said for awhile now that 1.3 will be content light since they wanted to get the transfers and group finder out quick.
Does anyone know if certain graphic cards would be the cause of such glitchy cut scenes? My wife and I are trying to finish up our characters so we can unsubscribe and it's really painful to watch all the NPCs walk right into each other and deliver lines. God forbid they are sitting down too, because they're almost always right on top of each other. My companion is often invisible in half of my cutscenes. I always blamed the programming of the game but perhaps it our gfx cards?
Transfers before server mergers won't help and will only risk making things worse. They can look at the number of players and decide how many servers they need. Server transfers will only load up a few more servers to the level of the mega-servers and the distribution will be even worse than it is now.
We could give them the benefit of the doubt and say they don't have the tech to do server merges yet, but their responses to the issue seems to belie that. It seems like merges are just something they are going to consider after transfers, so they are going to be months out.
Additionally, maybe I am a pessimist, but no discussion of the cost of the transfers isn't a good sign. If they were going to be free they would be trumpeting that fact.
If they didn't have to worry about PR, they should do server merges and transfers at or near the same time. Roll up the dead servers and encourage people to spread from the mega-servers. Also, they need to fix the server size indicators, so that players will know where to transfer with some confidence instead of just randomly guessing if a standard server is at 350 or 2000.
I also don't know why they are still rolling something like server transfers out with content updates. It should just be out as soon as it is available. I think we are past the day of "kitchen sink" updates.
In the end, they need to stop hoping things turn around on their own and start making structural changes to retain the players they have. If this forum is any indication (it may not be), then the number one reason people are leaving are dead servers. They are people that want to keep playing, but without other people, they can't play the content they want to play.
Until server issues are resolved the LFG tool being server-only will only shine a light on how bad the imbalance in server population really is. If you have to wait hours for a party to pop, it's not going to encourage you to wait out the situation. They really need to start making decisions that are good for the state of the game, and not worry about satisfying the vocal minority. The vocal minority are also the most likely to put up with a change they don't like because they want the game to succeed.
I am still of the opinion that it would be much better for them to just go back to the drawing board, even if that means admitting complete failure, and redoing a lot of the fundamentals of the game (races, mob AI, sound, engine), and giving the players the game they deserve. The die hard players wouldn't leave because it would make the game better, and they are willing to forgive anything, and you might actually get some new blood.
This seems relevant:
SWTOR team hit with layoffs
It's never good when you start laying people off. Sucks to those people, that's for sure.
Yeah it sucks and coupled with EA's opinion that SWTOR isn't a big priority for them, I think it's a sign that they going to continue to string fans along. I just unsubbed due to lack of population on my server. I may go back at some point but, I'm going to take a break and keep an eye on where it goes from here. A little bummed out though, I enjoyed the game the first few months but it's really gotten painful to keep playing in a ghost town.
One of the top reasons as to why folks leave their MMO is due to low populations. Almost no one wants to pay a monthly fee when 90% of the time it feels like a single player game. The problem (on top of that) is that most companies wait for quite a long time before actually making the move. From the majority of P2P MMO games I have played, especially those post 2005... I would say the average time between when most of the servers take a nose dive, to actually implementing said merge... is about 5-6 months. Folks asking on the official forums for a server merge has spiked up on April and even more so now in May. The problem is that Ohlen said recently that a server merge was not an option. He wants to do transfers instead, but like Ringthree said, chances are that may make matters worse in the long run.
This article was released today:
http://www.shacknews.com/article/739...an-350-players
They have 214 servers with the "rough estimate" of having anywhere between 300-350 per, depending if it is PVE or PVP. This is much lower for servers labeled light or normal though. If they wanted to keep the servers at near full and have 3000 per, they would need to bring the servers down to 25 from 214. If they wanted to keep the servers around heavy or very heavy and have around 2000 per, they would need to bring the servers down to 37 from 214. That is if they were to do the server merge today. And this is from the ballpark figure of having around 75000 logins.
Considering that there is no shred of evidence indicating a server merge, I would not be surprised at all if E.A. waits till SWTOR reaches it's 1st year anniversary to make the actual merge. Meaning, they might make an announcement as early as October or November, with the actual merge taking place in December. The problem is, if they wait that long... things are going to get much worse. This isn't going away just simply by having transfers. I would be shocked if they would do sooner.
That's pretty sad. I hate the reasoning for companies not wanting to do server merges. They're so afraid of what it looks like to people on the outside like "Oh, the game is dying". Meanwhile the people actually paying to play the game are the ones that have to suffer. Maybe if you actually did the merges people would stick around longer because they don't have to feel like they're playing a dead game. So what you end up with is a bunch of people unsubbing because they don't want to play a dead game, and any potential players are scared off because the game looks dead when most of the servers show low pop.
After ffxi that IS quick...
Wasn't really sure where to post this, but this crowd will appreciate it:
