The thing is, people were already complaining about the time spent on lame filler/fetch quests in swtor compared to the class story. Shifting more resources from endgame to leveling content sure wasn't the answer. The only thing they could have done is make those quests take longer, and even if that didn't put people off, how much could they have stretched it out, and how long would it have prolonged their road to 50? Not enough to make a difference I wager.

Really, I don't think anything could have saved this game aside from having (significantly) more content at launch, and the features wow already had; macros, mouse over targeting, ability queing, dual spec, lfg system, etc. Server transfers/merges should have been in at the first major patch, and free if server populations are such a major issue.

I definitely agree with your last paragraph. SWTOR was missing massive amounts of content on launch.

I'm in this boat. I found the game to be enchanting up until the time I got to my first copy-and-paste space mission; that's around the time I saw through the matrix so to speak and leveling became a chore. Any time I got to a story quest where the magic macguffin was actually three macguffins I wanted to Alt + F4. It wasn't just the questing though, the actual gameplay loop that occurred in every battle just stopped being entertaining. I also don't think many of the worlds are interesting; they all just felt like big, spread out battlefields. And I had to laugh that in a game that was supposed to be about story, shortly after a character died in my ending I got mail from them from the ending that would've occurred if they had been saved (a character, by the way, that was harder than intended to save when I completed my ending, sigh).

Amusingly, I felt like TOR's group content was stronger than most of its solo stuff. The dungeons I managed to get people together to run while I was leveling up were really fun, but putting together groups on my server was nearly impossible and even then the time invested wasn't worth the EXP return. If they greatly increased EXP so that it's possible to level through dungeons I might actually consider leveling another character; until then my sub remains canceled.

Every time more stuff like this comes out, i just shake my head. It's obvious they didn't understand their own game and how players in this genre attack content.

I have to imagine that they're not that dense and are just trying to downplay the situation for the interview.

Wow, that is SE level doublespeak.

Yeah, either they had no fucking clue, or they are just lying through their teeth.

So many doublespeak interviews coming out of Bioware right now.

Don't tell that to the SWTOR fans. 9 servers is the second fucking coming.

Even though I don't play anymore I was hoping to get my character off of a PVP server since world PVP is so pointless anyway.

But everyone is transferring to PVP servers because they're the most active!

These server transfers are basically voluntary server mergers. There are a few servers that all of the smallest servers of the same type are transferring to. Its basically server mergers but Bioware can get away with not saying that they are since no servers are being brought down yet.

The republic guild in my community totally lucked out getting to move to The Fatman. Our Imp guild was on that server so now they can PvP eachother all day lol

I like that we didn't need an active sub to transfer. Good idea there... Might make a comeback someday and it's nice to know I'm not on a dead server with no guild if I do.

I hate to say it, but voluntary transfers feels like Order 66. (YEAH I USED A PREQUEL REFERENCE)

Larger servers =/= more quality content.

Well that may be true, but playing on mostly empty servers isn't fun either when there's alot of group content and World PvP that revolves around benefiting from large numbers.

Illum yes, I do see your point. Its PVP that greatly benefits from server mergers. As much as I want to start back PVPing, I'm obligated to wait until 1.3 for ranked warzones (because i still haven't bothered to get full BM and worked my way up). PVP isn't worth the time sink if im getting steam rolled with my limited playing time.

However, lack of PVE content with a large amount of players to play with doesn't help.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: “we are looking at free-to-play,” says lead designer:

    http://www.gamestm.co.uk/discuss/sta...lead-designer/

BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic has faced some hard times since launching at the tail-end of 2011. Lead designer Emmanuel Lusinchi discusses the affects of losing over 400,000 subscribers earlier in the year and facing off increasingly stiff competition from free-to-play competitors.

“I think it’s more than the free-to-play model – it’s more that there is a lot of competitive offers,” suggests Lusinchi. “If it was just free-to-play games and they weren’t very good it wouldn’t even be a question but there are definitely good games out there and good games coming out, so of course all of this competition impacts your plan with what you want to do.”

Still, the advantages of free-to-play haven’t gone unnoticed by the developer. Asked whether it would be feasible to adapt The Old Republic to a free-to-play model, Lusinchi coyly suggests that the wheels may be in motion for a drastic change.

“The MMO market is very dynamic and we need to be dynamic as well,” he says. “Unless people are happy with what they have, they are constantly demanding updates, new modes and situations. So we are looking at free-to-play but I can’t tell you in much detail. We have to be flexible and adapt to what is going on.”

    Coy:

    1. Artfully or affectedly shy or reserved; slyly hesitant; coquettish.
    2. (Usually of a woman) affectedly demure, especially in a playful or provocative manner.

Me: Oh SWTOR why are you so coy!

SWTOR: *Blushes* Because I am going Play to Free.

Group finder is being launched shortly along with 1.3. Server 'transfers' are effectively mergers which will open up existing and new content. I'm still having fun and am looking forward to our imminent merge. Content is being rolled out and level cap will mean more questing and new areas. SWTOR suits me right now.
