There is no such thing as a Jewish nation. Self-determination belongs to people of a land, not religions.

If a Jew is a Jew, born in the US with US citizenship - he is not an Israeli citizen until he takes advantage of the Jewish Law of Return.

There is no Muslim nation either, nor a Christian nation.

Unless you don't know how to define these groups. There are Jews of differing ethnicity but they're also Asian Muslims with their own distinct cultures.

Self-identification within a territory is a kind of nationalism. That's why there is an Israeli national identity - not to mention 20% of Israel is NON-Jewish. But a Jew born outside of Israel and without Israeli citizenship is not a member of 'the Jewish State'.

These concepts are all relatively new (just as the 'right to exist') and the almost always come up w/ regards to Israel.

I don't think I know anyone that hasn't gone to Israel at least once in their lives. With the exception of anyone under 18, as I don't know any that young. Don't think they start volunteering till at least 18.

I don't think i agree with that definition of nation, because it's not the one i'm used to hearing, even in academic context. For example, even though large segments of puertoricans live in the US, Hawaii, and Venezuela, all these people can still be lumped up into a so called Puertorican Nation on the basis of a cultural identification as Puertorican.

If I was asked my nationality, I'd state American. If I was asked my ethnicity, I'd state german/english/etc. If I was asked my religion, I'd state whatever that was (we'll say Christian).

Thats why when asked, already knowing they were Jewish as it couldn't be more obvious, I would expect an answer such as Israeli if in fact they were Israeli, in which many are.

Also, that culture class population is vastly different. I think this town is around 100k people, around 4,000 per square mile, with over half the population now being orthodox/hasidic.

No argument there, the idea of equating ethnicity with nationality sounds weird to me as well, but I wouldn't make a big deal of it, tbh.
Plenty of people around here would tell you their nationality is "Italian", even though their ID card clearly displays a large "B", just because they culturally relate with their roots, even if 1-2 generations away. Really no big deal.

Anyways, this issue is really not a big deal at all. It's just a touchy subject because you're talking about Jews and not Muslims.
