I'd just like to point out that I have Christian values and believe in God and Jesus and don't think I'm better than anyone. I have suspicions that I might be better than specific people, but since I'm not really in a position to judge another human being, I can't say for sure. Edit: Those suspicions are based on behavior, and I usually don't talk about them. I try not to even think about them, really, because then I'm judging those people. Alas, I'm only human, and am not always successful. But I try. /edit
Egon does have an understandable complaint, though he's expressed it in an inflammatory manner. BG has a long tradition of religion bashing, and it can get just as annoying as proselytizing. I've expressed this annoyance before, though I think I was able to make the distinction between "You guys are being just as annoying and pushy as the people you're trying to bash" and "Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!"
That or no one reads my posts.
In the end it's irrelevant because one of these groups holds immense, world-wide political and economic power and the other does not. Trying to draw a moral equivalency between the actions of the oppressed and the oppressor is fallacious.
It's also incredibly narcissistic to direct this thread into a discussion about Egon's persecution complex. It's not the first time he's done it either.
bashing a religion for openly hating gays in a thread about gays is totally unfair guys
Is it considered cherry-picking if you don't understand the context of something you're posting to accuse other people of cherry-picking?
What Paul is pointing out in that verse is basically, everyone is going to hell. Everyone falls short of the standards put forth by God.
People who call themselves Christians give the rest of us a bad name because they don't take the time to read and learn and understand what they supposedly believe in, and become legalistic douches. All they care about is being religious fanatics who hop on the bandwagon because it makes them feel like they're doing something constructive. They ignore the very fundamental part of Christianity that is the entire reason for Human existence, and it's salvation. Love.
And the rest of you who bash Christianity, you're just as bad! You look at the surface instead of digging deeper to find out if what these crazies are saying is actually true in their faith. I don't mean to make it seem like i'm picking on Ashmada, but it's a good example. Someone makes mention of something in the bible, someone else retorts with another bible verse to sling back at them, but neither has the understanding of the information that they're slinging back and forth at each other.
As for the OP: I am not in support of gay rights, or black rights, or clown rights, or garbage-man rights. I support HUMAN rights. God does NOT hate fags, he just hates some of the things they do. He hates some of the things EVERYONE does. That's the big picture. We are all going to hell at this rate. No one lives up to God's standards. Except Jesus. He lived the life we should have lived, and died the death we deserve. Remember that thing I mentioned earlier? That dirty 4-letter word that people hate when gays toss it around?
Love. That's what Jesus is. He came here because God loves us so much. I'm sure you've all heard it one time or another, as it's probably one of the most commonly heard biblical verses:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
That is what Love is. Sacrifice.
And i'm willing to bet a lot of gay people know way more about sacrifice than many of us straight folks. God wants them, and everyone else, to know the love part too.
P.S.- not troll'n
God: I make you gay but hate when you do gay things
fuck that god. If that is the God in charge of Heaven, I don't want to go
Extreme example: God creates people with the capacity for harming others, that's the price of free will. We choose not to hurt other people most of the time even though often we really, really want to. Some people have less control over those feelings, hence the show COPS. God could have made people innately gay, or it could be something that develops eventually. I don't think it's a real choice whether you are sexually attracted to the same sex or not. Whether or not you act on those feelings is your choice though.
When you break the law, do you not have to pay the punishment for it?
Why should this be any less true for the Creator of the universe?
I guess you missed the part about Love even though you quoted it. We don't have to end up like that, because God paid that price for us.
ITT: anyone who bashes Christianity doesn't know what they're talking about. And the rest of you who bash Christianity, you're just as bad! You look at the surface instead of digging deeper to find out if what these crazies are saying is actually true in their faith.
What exactly do you have to say to people who are properly educated on the subject, form their opinions of Christianity (and religion in general) through rational thought and reflection, and still "bash" you?
nah, see, moosey is one of those people that says his interpretation of christianity is the only correct one, and that others are just going against the word of god, so you can't take their actions seriously. His background is the final authority.
