I fail to see how this guy being Asian is in any way relevant - it should read "Helpless student jumped by 7 guys". Don't try and earn the kid extra sympathy. It wasn't a hate crime.

There is absolutely no way you came to that conclusion by watching the video, so please tell me where you get your all knowing powers from. 7 white kids beating up a Chinese kid. The girl in the video obviously has a negative attitude toward Chinese people "straight off the boat". Looks like it could be a hate crime. Also 0 people were "for the bully" in that other thread including plow's retarded comments.

When a white guy beats up a black guy, its not necessarily cause hes black. It could be because hes on the wrong turf. Or maybe the black guy owed the white guy money. Or maybe he offended the white guy's girlfriend and honor. To me, a hate crime is when its done simply because you don't like the other person's sexual orientation / religion / race / etc. I fail to see how him being Asian has anything to do with it. If the girl is Asian but not a big fan of Chinese, then at the very least call it "Helpless Chinese student jumped by 7 guys" but Asian brings up connotations of vulnerability, not being an instigator, pacifism, and sympathy. Put it this way, if 7 guys OF ANY ETHNICITY beat up 1 white guy, you wouldn't call it, "Helpless white student jumped by 7 guys"

I used to live in Beverly... it's an interesting dynamic. It sits just inside Chicago city limits, so there's alot of Chicago cops and firefighters who live there because they're required to live within Chicago city limits but they want to live as far from the bad areas as possible, but the racism is hardcore because the bad areas are just collapsing on this little community of white people that's left there. For example, my buddy owns a house there (which is where I lived for a time), and he decided to rent it out... he got death threats for choosing a black family to rent it. It's kind of fucked up. I don't get the whole Asian thing, I didn't see any when I was living there.

My friend was in NYC Korean gang, and all they did was rival with other asian groups based entirely on the Korean v Japan v China scenario.

Edit: I personally don't believe it was a hate crime. I think its as easy as 2 groups of people at a highschool not liking each other and going back and forth. You still don't jump anyone 7 v 1 and not deserve to get wrecked in jail the bad way.

Though hate crimes have become something of a joke, the process of actually proving an attack was specifically engaged because someone represents a group of people is actually very difficult.
