oh FUCK yeah, looks like they're finally going back to the roots more - except game play wise; but that's OK I suppose.
I always liked the virus more than the parasite.

That's why I said "But that's OK". I said that I'm happy they seem to be going back to the roots - as in, the virus, not the parasite, as well as more "horror" moments. I don't mind the new control scheme at all.
Yeah, but i will not be surprised to see some totally new virus.... Like the Q-Virus or some such. I can see it now ; ;
Leading into Flaming Rape Zombies of course o.O
Always makes me giggle when the terms 'Resident Evil' and 'horror' appear in the same sentence in reference to the most recent installments.
Looks like it'll be another mindless but entertaining action-fest with a terrible story, nothing unexpected. Makes me sad how neglected the survival horror genre has been since the PS2 era...
It doesn't help that when, for example new SH comes along huge bawww'ing begins immediately. When the whole genre is in this state you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you..
Although there are games like Amnesia that are pretty good at being scary. Just don't expect RE to do the job.
Don't misunderstand me - I think it's stupid to complain about franchises like RE and SH not producing actual horror games any more when it's clear that their producers abandoned that modus operandi a long time ago. It's disappointing that they've gone in this meathead direction, but you can't deny that the new crop of RE games at least do what they set out to do well (mindless zombie-slaying action).
Yeah, my point isn't that I think RE in its current incarnation should be scary, I was just saying that the current lack of good 'true' horror franchises is disheartening. Amnesia is, like, the only good example from the past 12 months, and even that isn't brilliant.Although there are games like Amnesia that are pretty good at being scary. spoilerish talk about who the third protagonist is:
Spoiler: show
Hunk? Badass. How is that guy not a main character already?
This is what I see when I saw Hunk. http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...0,214,314_.jpg
One thing I hope they'll do in this game if they're going back to the roots more, is too do away with the chapter system and do more free-roaming with puzzles like in previous games. Control scheme can be the same, but I much prefered free roaming over short chapters in a set area.
Camera and controls are not exactly the same thing.
In a shooter they may as well be the same as it basically determines whether or not you can aim your gun (4-5) or just point it in a general direction (1-CV).
Fixed camera angles certainly do add atmosphere but they also take away control and can make the game artificially easier and harder (you can often see behind yourself, but you can't always see where you want/need to). Controlled camera gives you a more personal/realistic perspective and, imo, can create a deeper level of tension and suspense.
When I first played RE4 and got to the town area I died so many times because I couldn't deal with the openness and randomness of the whole thing, getting jumped from behind by enemies I didn't even know were there, not knowing where to go or what to do. That's hard to do with a fixed camera as it has the side effect of being an artificial guide; it has to show you what you need to see as you can't look around yourself. A controlled camera doesn't give you a set view of what to look/look out for, you're only seeing where you're looking and because you have the freedom to look everywhere the game has the freedom to throw shit at you from anywhere.
I prefer the controlled camera as far as RE's go and I don't think anyone expects them to go back to fixed camera and/or tank controls.
