ANOVA is THE brand. Not sure about the Nano versus regular ones. They're all on sale, it seems, but that one is the cheapest option. I picked one up for my cousin.

The regular one is $199 normally, it's only $99 now.

I love Malcolm Reed videos. I watch a lot of his stuff for recipe and cook times.

I have the regular Anova and love it. Use it whenever I can. Completely worth it.

You wont find a better deal on quality sous vide merch until next black Friday. Jump on that my dude if you want to give it a whirl, you wont be disappointed with your ribs when you do.

Do any of yall fuck with whetstones? Amazon has a 400/1000 and 3000/6000 on sale and I don't really want both but idk if 1000 grit is enough to finish up a blade better than I have it now...

400/1000 is for serious tuning. 3000/6000 is to see just how sharp you can possibly get it.

I'm rocking a $15 set of Farberware or whatever it is. Knives are the last thing in the kitchen that needs attention. I may get a meat slicer tho.

A whetstone can turn that $15 set into knives that cut better than a $300 set. Not bad for $13.59 off amazon. I have expensive knives as is, but they're old and starting to chip and need some love. The sharpening steel isnt enough.

I have a basic sharpener. Trying to debone chicken thighs is a bitch. I'd also like some decent steak. Would be nice to not feel like I'm sawing wood when trying to cut a piece of steak.

About steak, did top round in the sous and was wonderful. Instead of using cast iron to sear I'd like a torch.

only downside is that they usually don't hold an edge for very long. still, saves a ton of money in the long run.

Yo no lie I got my gf into some of the sous vide videos on the tubes, and now shes seriously considering buying me a food vacuum system and a torch cause she loves what I do but hates the smoke from the cast iron haha.

For you all and anyone else even remotely looking at sous vide - absolutely stop what you're doing and buy this model.

The nano is fantastic. Its slightly smaller, uses less power, is quieter, and unless you're doing a very large unusual sized container that most home cooks wouldn't be doing it'll heat the volume of water just as fast.

The wifi version is not worth it. It is not necessary, and you won't miss it.

Get the nano for $64. All of you.

from reading reviews, it sounds like that is the theory, but both the wifi and the app itself seem to be the biggest complaint about that model (obviously i dont own one myself)

The wifi is garbage and an almost pointless feature. You would never operate it from work as you wouldn't be turning the unit on or off from there. Mine constantly disconnects from wifi so I'd say it's only use is to check the timer but you don't need wifi for that since it's a timer and counts down without WiFi access.

The app is 'okay' but most people set everything manually. I use the app to set time and temp and check on it occasionally or when I wake up during a long cook so I can roll back over.
