Veggies work too but I don't bother with them because roasting is just as easy and I prefer that texture.

You could use it to break down fruit for jams and stuff I'd imagine, haven't tried though.

You can use it to cook vegetables as well. I'm not sure what else you had in mind?

You can cook almost literally anything in there. And because it's temp controlled to within a degree (.1 degree on the C scale), you don't have to worry about overcooking for the most part. I'm sure some things like broccoli wouldn't fair so well cooked via sous vide, but by and large anything that you'd want to cook, can be cooked sous vide.

Food Labs does test in-depth and show that cooking for too long can be bad (he cooked a bunch of steaks for 1-48 hours), but it's very hard to fuck it up, unlike a grill that will make your meat turn to shoe leather in just a few minutes.

A lot of it is personal preference; for instance I ran across one site that says they hate the texture of sous-vide chicken and certain types of fish.

Both chicken and fish are very dependent on finishing with a broiler/pan/grill. They are kind of meh straight out of the bag. I usually just shred the chicken and make a healthy chicken salad (I cook about 5-6 lbs of chicken at a time for a week's worth)

The only fish that is fine straight out of the bag for me is cod. It doesn't require much texture and if you have a tiny dab of butter in there before you cook, it's rich as shit.

Thanks guys. Can't wait to try this food revolution. Should be extra good for me since I have a shitty kitchen situation so stove/oven is slow anyways.

You can also make Yoghurt with sous vide. Sous Vide ribs/brisket also insanely good.

Yeah when we get a house/condo in our new area I think this will be purchased instead of a mixer or anything. We need to eat more protein as is. I'm totally lost with Sous Vide so is chicken also cooked using this?

I've been holding off on buying one but with how much meal prep I do and how often I crock pot or bake a crap load of chicken you pretty much just sold me.

Now I have an extra excuse for when she sees it and yells at me for having too much money.

Make sure you get a bucket. You can fit a LOT of meat in there.

Yeah I saw that on the amazon page that it's frequently bought with one lol.

I work Sunday Monday Tuesday 7am - 7pm and hate cooking when I get home and bring all my meals to work. Looks like there's a lot of recipes that I could throw together before work and eat when I get home too.

Actually since it's Bluetooth, does my phone need to be in range of it throughout the cooking process? I'd love to use it like a crockpot for some recipes and leave it all day while at work or something.

    It does not.

I have never used the function except to see that it worked the first time I opened it.

Get the Bluetooth one, no need to blow 30 extra bucks on the wifi.
