Money paid to mortgage goes to equity.
Granted it depends on the interest rates and the difference between rent prices and monthly nuts that determines which is the best course of action, but if prices are the same, it would be wise to look to buying if you can manage it.
Hell, I was out walking this morning, and saw a sign for a modest house for rent, in a retirement development (62+), and it was $2,500 a month.
