Me and my girlfriend (now wife) had a baby young (17 and 20). After the baby was born we tried living with her parents and it just didn't work out after a few months. We got our own apartment while she finished her last semester of high school and I worked full time. She started going to college and working part time. After two years in apartment we bought a small house and also had another baby (This time planned) She graduates next spring with BSN in Nursing and I'll maybe go to college then. With my pay+hers we average about $45,000 a year, have two kids, two cars, and a house. We make it just fine, although we only save about $100-$200 a month. I will say we probably wouldn't have been able to do it without my job since its decent pay and has great insurance (which I pay nothing for, yay union jobs).

Individuals like you boggle my mind. 45k combined, kid, two cars, house and still manage to save. When the hell do you have fun, go out, or treat yourselves?

My wife and I have never W2'd less than 98k since we've both been out of college, have no kids but we do own a home and each a car and I am terrified that I couldn't financially take on the "burden" of having a kid. Not in the sense that I couldn't make it work, but I would have to give up 80% of what makes my life enjoyable to do it.

I'd say my fiancee and I make the same amount of money, but with only one child. We own a house, save and have plenty of fun. We go out at least once a week to eat. I've got poker night on Tuesdays and she has her girl night on Fridays. Plus weekends are for lounging around. Plenty of free time.
