I am half-white (although I suppose I "identify" as fully white because I only really have contact with that side of my family) and am only willing to date white women. Has nothing to do with intolerance or anything (at least on a conscious level), that's just what I find physically attractive. Does that count as "I would never date someone of a different race than myself"?

I've never liked the ghetto mentality, and of course, the black woman I respect most is my own mother. She, and my father, grew up in the heart of Baltimore, MD, and not once has she ever acted ghetto in any way, shape, or form. She's smarter than I am, a better writer, and undoubtedly a better person than I am, though she'd probably challenge me on some of those. I already know that there won't be a black chick that comes anywhere close to meeting my expectations of them, because the bar's been set so high. Oh, most of my relatives somehow dodged the "ghetto" curse as well; funny thing.

Its really the black chick's loss. Black guys have no problem crossing the line in regards to being attracted to white women (what's not to be attracted to?), so black chicks can sit and fume about good men being rare all they want. I suppose its sad to say (not really), but a black chick is going to have to act pretty "white" to me for me to have an interest, and I say white in regards to having some semblance of intelligence, culture (more than simply appreciating black culture), a sense of humor, and an education. Everything else I can pretty much go either way on, but those 4 are absolute mandates, and, unfortunately for black women, those 4 seem to oppose the core tenants of the ghetto mentality.

Again, their loss. I've never lost sleep worrying about the plight of the black woman. My mother and her sisters did just fine.

I guess I could be considered lucky having parents who broke from the stereotype but having good influences all around and persistent parents is what made all the difference for me. My parents being both immigrants from the Caribbean had to put up with alot of shit coming to live up here in the states but not once did they lapse into believing they were worthless or fall prey to the ghetto lifestyle that so many people around them seemed to embrace.

Neither of them are college educated yet both seemed to be capable enough to hold down jobs, raise two kids, make sacrifices and pass on valuable knowledge to me. Further, my grandfather was a laborer all his life, raised five kids alone as a widower, built his own house, bought land and took shit from no one. His outspokenness got him into (political) trouble but no matter how down things looked he was never afraid to speak his mind and demanded excellence from his children. I often lament not being old enough to gleam more knowledge from him because alot of things he'd say would come off as rough around the edges but ultimately true.

I mean this is a guy that built his own coffin 40 years ahead of time and promised to be buried in something he built with his own two hands.

What I mean to say is that black people need to stop embracing the degrading, silly, immature and outright destructive stereotypes and do some growing up. The ghetto culture offers nothing but endless servitude to the system and false promises. Those who supposedly champion the culture eventually turn around and do "white" things like own businesses, dabble in real estate, write books, date women of other races and do everything that they tell the listeners not to do.

Funny how that works but is it any surprise?

I could say also that video games did alot to mold me into the person I am today but that'd be another story entirely.

Among the whole "ghetto" shit. One of my best friends when I was younger was black. We both rode the high school bus since we were in the magnet program (which was one class in the county) and we always sat together, used to hang out after school non stop, both liked soccer and basketball, video games, etc. Then he got into...rap music. I still remember the day he came up with his walkman and was like "listen to this" and I listened to Busta Rhymes (who I like, relative to most rappers). Sadly, it was mostly down from there. He did get a job at the CVS pharmacy once he was old enough and I thought he had his shit together. But now I hear that he is locked up for 10 years, driving around on drugs with drugs, with multiple offenses, etc.

And I'm just like wtf happened, his dad is supposedly hardcore nuts, he's from Haiti, awesome accent, but I hear he used to beat them real hard as punishment. But his mother was boss, she was possibly the nicest mother of any in the neighborhood and was the skinny black type, not soul food gramma. All his facebook stuff from the year before he stopped existing online he was in a "gangsta" rap group, him doing freestyle stuff (which I occasionally listened to, but wasn't impressed lol). The dude grew up in my neighborhood, we had two black houses total, in our nice little suburban neighborhood where we would hold fairs and block parties and shit.

I think it's kinda obvious just from my post, but I blame gangsta raps popularity. I think it just perpetuates stupid ghetto shit, especially when it's popular outside of the ghetto. One of my coworkers (I work inside the richest area of my county, houses are 450k or so for 4bd SFH) constantly plays gangsta rap in the back when we're closing. He's a rich little white kid, you don't have any idea what that music is about. I also think it hurts the genre, there's hip hop that is awesome, Run DMC, Criss Cross, I love that music, but if nigga is your ENTIRE CHORUS, please stop making records.
