My kitty has Asthma

I am kind of sad but I am glad I can get him the medical attention that he deserves. He is about 6 years old and lately he's been coughing as if he has a hairball but after 2-3 weeks of nothing coming out, I decided to take him in. I had 2 x-rays taken and blood work done and was diagnosed with asthma. I just ordered his inhaler and the doctor is going to call in a prescription to my pharmacy tomorrow. It is a little expensive ($400 in medical bills and a bit more on equipment) but I want him to live a long life. I have no pet insurance but luckily I can afford the treatment. Anyone have any similar experiences with their kitty?

Yep my cat was taken away from his mother to soon and developed asthma as well. They put him on a steroid and he hasn't had a problem since. Cat looks like a body builder lol I mean big muscles that you don't normally see on a cat. Will post pics in a little.

My vet said steroids have the side effect of diabetes

We've had a cat with diabetes lol, wasn't to bad just had to give him an insulin shots twice a day.

It really sucks to have a diabetic cat. I had to give my kitty shots as well, but after a year when she was diagnosed, she died of complications.

Mine actually lived for 3-4 years after that. He was always so happy, would run around the house so I didn't feel right just letting him go because of diabetes. So we started him on the shots and he stayed the shame cheerful playful cat it had always been.

Well that's nice to know, I figured the cat would completely change and be all reclusive NO MORE SHOTS DADDY type of thing

Just depends on the cat I suppose, mine would jump up on a little stool and lay down for me to give her shots.

You'd be surprised. It turned into a cycle for him, he knew when he had to have his shots and would walk in and wait beside the refrigerator.

Seconding hitting it with a water bottle. This solves pretty much every problem you could ever have with a cat.
