sure do hope they show us what theyve been working on at the art exhibition.. somehow
Oh wait. They are really done with FFXIII-2 DLC? Like there will be no ending DLC? They are going to go through and start off XIII-3 with how XIII-2 ended?
yeah. Lightning's episode was meant to be the final DLC.
I get the impression people are still not used to the idea that the true ending to FFXIII-2 is a bad one. i was personally rather taken aback considering I actually grew to like Serah a lot throughout the course of XIII-2, even tho I thought she was a whiny bitch in XIII.
but as the Lightning DLC reveals, Serah knew she was going to die. She went ahead with it anyway. There may be a lot of other things that she'd have seen that we don't know about that influenced her decision to sacrifice herself.. but it was a very poignant ending, which is a lot more than I can say for XIIIs ending, which didn't feel like much of anything other than a short reunion.
I genuinely enjoyed the additional information given from the DLC and it's really made me interested in what XIII-3 has to offer. I never particularly liked Serah and it generally seemed like she did little but hold Noel back a lot of the time, but the DLC where she talked about knowing what was going to happen made me gain a bit of respect for the character. She said during the story she was prepared for what would happen, but it was so fluffy and optimistic-hero-style that I just ignored it most of the time.
Also looking forward to seeing what Yuel's real story is, she (it?) seemed pretty evil in the DLC to Lightning so it'll be interesting to see.
I'm expecting XIII-3 to be a Lightning, Vanille and Fang-fest for the first half considering they were the only ones we know of encased in crystal who could "survive chaos" or whatever lightning said. Would be pretty epic for the finale to get all 8 together in the end.
Are these things that justify adding $10+ to a title upon release if they held off, though? If the answer is no, then it smells of shameless cash grab. Meanwhile, if production costs are bloating irresponsibly high, then perhaps it's time to trim some fat and start using what money they do get more intelligently. Perhaps I'm alone on this thought, but taking 2-3 years to turn around and make a game seems... needlessly slow.
But I'm not just knocking SE on the DLC train here. There's a lot of it going on that's shady, especially just for stuff like outfits.
What happens in the dlc?
There was no paid DLC upon release for XIII-2, it started a few weeks later and it was mostly irrelevant for the majority anyway. They also actually worked on it after release and some was even made up due to fan requests (Snow's Episode).
The other option was another International version that wasn't going to come out of Japan.
The only thing I can agree with are costumes but they're cosmetic stuff anyway. They've also added a bunch of gear and adornments through patches for free.
I am fine with that too. But lets understand a game like ff14 it will make money. Subs will cover the cost in no time.
10x30,000 people (plus the cost of the game itself buying). The game is made to make money even as a flop. FF11 became pure profits after 3 years(I think that is what they said? ) FF14 will do the same even without much more being done to it from this point on.
More info on the FFXIII-series coming in Sept.

Really hope they don't take the 'doesn't matter if you havent played the previous game(s)' approach with this one, so many loose ends between the two games now that I'd like to see tied up. Also hoping that considering it's probably the last game set on Pulse they'll be a bit more generous with the budget so we might see some more new enemies, don't really wanna be fighting ALL the same creatures just + valhalla background or something.
Generally pretty excited for this event, although the FF7 stage makes me slightly nervous for what else they might pump out for the 'collection'..
They could do something like they did in ffxiii-2. They had info on the game before it(reading like the episodes)
I think this is more likely this is not going to be a spin off style game it was planed with the idea they can add to the story and make more money by doing so.

Next Final Fantasy XIII Project Title To be Announced at September Anniversary Event
New project has just started, says producer.
You may think you've read this headline before, but we actually have a few additional bits about Square Enix's upcoming "Lightning Saga" announcement.
In this week's Famitsu, FFXIII and XIII-2 producer Yoshinori Kitase says that at the upcoming FF series anniversary event, Square Enix will make an announcement regarding Lightning Saga, the next development in the Final Fantasy XIII project. This, of course, is what Square Enix said when it provided details on the event a couple of weeks back.
Kitase adds a couple of additional bits in his Famitsu commentary. The new project has just recently started, says Kitase. We'll get the project's official title at the anniversary event.
The anniversary event will be held in Shibuya from August 31 through September 2. The big announcements will come during a stage event on September 1.
I have a bad feeling they will announce a Lightning focused Kingdom hearts styled spinoff for the 3DS.
