    hell ya! oldie but goodie.

I have a RTS game that I loved back in the day. Not that old, around 1997 but had me hooked for some time:

    Dark Colony:

Chips Challenge - Best retro puzzle game ever.

Maniac Mansion - I prefer the NES version for the music, but still a classic.

Day of the Tentacle - I'll neger forget the part where Haogie was "surfing" through time.

Oregon Trail - Windows version was pure awesome, though hunting wasn't as fun compared to the Apple version.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego (1996 Version) - Great revision. Loved having to keep track of the culprit's description, QuckTime movies of Lynne Thigpen briefing you, and the cartoonish animation. Only thing it was missing was Rockapella.

King's Quest series (all of them, but 6 was my favorite)
Might and Magic III (never played any others, but I loved this game!)
    Torin's Passage
Castles (I was great at this game as a kid, but I tried to play on an emulator a couple years back and I couldn't win a single battle!)
Betrayal at Krondor (big fan of Raymond Feist, who was my first fantasy author)

I remember the look of a bunch on my Apple ][, but I can't remember the names of many.

    Lady Tut
    Sea Dragon
    Number Munchers
    Sneakers
    Space Egg
    Phoenix
    Galaxian and Super Galaxian
BattleTech (couldn't beat it because I couldn't solve the last room puzzle)

I also remember an old DOS game I can't find a copy of, Montezuma's Revenge, that I'd like to try emulating.

Good Old Games has some of the titles you guys have mentioned. I couldn't figure out Castles on DOS from them though, but I remember playing the Mac version in junior high.

For something slightly newer, Descent 1 and 2. http://www.descent2.de/d2x.html They've been updated with non-IPX online play and some extra features.

There's also the Marathon Trilogy via AlephOne. http://source.bungie.org/ http://trilogyrelease.bungie.org/

Halls of Death. Even remember having to save games to a tape deck.
Such a good game though, Had all the RPG elements even in 1983.

fucking Wing Commander. loved that as a kid, even though I was terrible at it.

Might and Magic III, hell yes. also IV and V. I gave VII a try (I think it was VII? it's the first real-time game in the series) but I couldn't dig the switch from turn-based combat.

I need to download those again... thankfully, gog.com is cool about that sort of thing.

I'd love to see a remake of the 7th Guest to join the puzzle stuff that seems to cluster on the Nintendo DS.

Original Civ was probably the first PC game I got seriously hooked into.

I did pick up MoM from GoG's winter sale. It...hasn't quite held up like I remember. Still a lot of fun, but I have to wonder if I really did spend that much time just hitting "Next turn" while waiting to cast spells/build troops/etc.

I want to say that I ended up playing Dungeons of Daggorath on my father's TRS-80 via a cassette tape, but I honestly don't remember whether it was called that or not. I think it looked like that.

Oh damn, also forgot about 2 games that stole my life forever way back.

Simcity... and their method of DRM back before interwebs was widespread (derp AoL HAHAHA) was with a flimsy paper where you had to either identify a city or a population based on a 3 square patterned code, or else it would spam you with disasters from the moment you hit play! Course SC2k was an awesome follow-up. ABUSE THEM HYDRO PLANTS!

Alpha Centauri... Sure it was the sequel to Civ 2 so it isn't as ancient as other games, but it ate just as much time away.
