You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    rate per page? (college tutoring)

So I just got contacted from one of my old students (she was an exchange student from China) that I tutored last year. She's in college now and wants help with one of her papers. Back when I tutored her, I had a set rate per day because some days took 2 hours and others took 4+, and it just made life easier (and easier to get certain ones to pay me lol).

At first, I figured I'd just help her for free since this one is only three pages, BUT my life is kinda insanely busy atm and I know her well enough that if I do one for free I'm going to get roped into helping her on every little assignment. I once helped a student on a dissertation, but I can't remember how much I charged her per page on that. I figured some people on bg must do college tutoring and know what is a standard rate for this type of work. I'll probably charge her a little under the standard rate to be nice.

tl;dr: What's the standard rate tutors charge per page to college students? (note: my work is mostly grammatical errors fixing, I do not write the papers for them.)

    I remembered at UC Berkeley.

The flat rate is roughly $25-$30 dollars per page depending on the English course. There are some deductions if you missed some errors though.

Most UCB are just doing per hour rate though. Rate per page is rare.

Damn lol. I used to help this girl for free for about a year, simply because I felt bad for her. Oh well, we're pretty good friends now so I'll take that over the money.

Holy crap, that's a lot more than I figured lol. If they do per hour what do they charge? And is that one-on-one? Her college is far so any fixing/help I do for her would be through email only.

That's UC Berkeley, what do you expect? I would halve that number, at least. This also makes me glad that my school has free editing services.

10 a page sounds right. I see ads and other shit for services around NYU but they charge hourly and it's wicked expensive.

I don't think it's ethical for you to charge her unless you offer refunds.

That sounds more like what I charged before (terribad memory), so I'll probably do 8 at a discount.

This is just to edit her paper? Or is she paying you to insert Ksandralogic into her paper?

pretty much this. are you actually equipped to edit english for another person? assuming you are (a big assumption), you should offer this first paper for free, and tell her going forward if she needs help again it'll be 10-15 a page. lets you help her out, prevents becoming a free workhorse, protects her from you, and opens the opportunity to make some money.

Usually, the way I've done it is to mostly edit grammatical mistakes, but I will make comments/questions to areas that need improvement (ie. "This paragraph doesn't relate to your thesis in any way. Make sure to connect it back to your topic."). For this particular paper, she probably won't get much back and forth as she sent it to me today and it is due on Friday. As well, she didn't send me any information on what was the assignment description, so I can't only make assumptions on what the teacher was asking for. However, I'd rather not say something like, "Since this is short notice, you only need to pay me X, but in the future Y." She is a bit of a haggler, so if I give her that kind of outlet, there is no doubt in my mind she will try to get the lower price by giving me papers last minute in the future.

Learn to read the OP before thinking I'm new to this. This is a student I have tutored in the past (I tutored her for three years), but as I stated, I charged her per day when I tutored her. Now I am in a different situation where I think per hour is more appropriate.

I have also done this for a student's dissertation but that was a bit ago, and I can't remember our agreed price.

I have been a tutor for quite awhile, but outside of the dissertation I always did it per day.

I did read the OP. I know your background and the level of proficiency you've shown with english on these forums and it's a little concerning. that aside, if you want to make some money out of this, you should do it the way I said above. if you just want to help her out and not hear from her again, overcharge her out of the gate.

I think it's pretty damn stupid to suddenly give her one for free. The gap in tutoring has only been one semester. I have never done that in any session for any student in order to "get money out of it." So, no, I probably won't be taking your advice.

Only reason I'm charging is to make sure she doesn't try to overwhelm me with work, as I have a lot of irl stuff going on. If she knows she has to pay, she'll be selective in what she sends me.

let me get this straight... you just want to help her out for free, since it's only 3 pages, but you're too busy to make the time without charging and you're afraid she'll try to take advantage of you or depend on your help too much. what you REALLY should do is tell her to take advantage of the resources at her college, then. she'll be better off for it.

The way I used to edit Miae's papers were if I saw something that needed fixing, I'd underline it(and right next to it I'd write the correction in bold/parenthesis and why I made that correction so that it'd make sense to her)
and pretty much just repeated that for the entire paper
