    Laptop Suggestions for School/Diablo III

    Hello all, The Blazed here...

I have a Desktop customized for gaming so im not looking for a decked out powerful laptop.

Here is my desktop --> http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...180&CatId=4928

    GPU Upgraded --> GTX 460
Power Supply Upgraded -> Corsair 750

(This is my future Gaming rig for right now... if any suggestions to make it better please post)

    - I am looking for a Decent/Gaming/School work laptop.
-I hate slow processors and i prefer a decent graphics card.
    - Must be able to play Diablo III (with recommended specs)

I will Mainly play games on my Desktop but i want to have the option of going on my laptop (obviously with a small performance decrease) for when i go to girlfriends house, in-between classes, etc. I like Big 17" screens, for those days when i set it on my chest and watch a movie... like a ghetto movie theater.

My budget is 400-650. 700 is the Ultimte Max.

I don't care for new or refurbished...
I just want a laptop with my requirements met and ill be a happy guy.

    Thank you in Advance.
    Blazed

Check out this laptop in the WTS/WTB thread.

I actually had this laptop and I absolutely loved it. Traded it in for my MBP because I got a new desktop and wanted something lighter for school. It is a great computer, just a tad heavy

Fiance and I recently bought a couple of Dell XPSs. Love them. I have a XPS 17 and she has the XPS 15z. We both love them. Sono can attest for the 15z too.

I like my 17" b/c its my size. I like the screen size, I like its beast mode. Itll last me years. Overall the XPS 15z is probably the best for everyone. Its considerably cheaper, insanely INSANELY light and thin. And still carries the powerhouse abilities of a great gaming laptop.

17" with a decent processor and graphics card for under $700?

    Good luck.

Here's an HP 15.6" quad-core i7 HP with 8GB ram, 7470M Radeon 1GB GPU, and blu-ray drive. Choose "base configuration" (quick-ship won't work) and enter coupon NBDV5528 to get it for $699. Best I could find for that price constraint.

Here's another 15" quad-core with a slightly better GFX card than the HP, 6GB ram, no blu-ray drive (just DVD burner) - $630 after rebate.

    If you wanna scrape the bottom - here's a $470 15.3" Lenovo - http://dealzon.com/deals/lenovo-idea...d-z575-129937u

I do not vouch for the fact that DiabloIII can run on a Radeon HD 6380G though. In fact, I have no idea laptop cards are comparable to a NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800 GT desktop card (the minimum system requirements for DIII on a Windows machine).

That card is ancient. Any sandy bridge integrated GPU will do.

I went from an Asus 17inch for gaming to an alienware m11x that I got for 600$ on black friday a year ago.

I couldn't have been happier at the trade off. 17inch laptops are fucking stupid to me now, I have a gaming desktop, I wanted a gaming laptop, but I was blown away by how much I now value the portability and size of the m11x. I never thought I'd care for portability, holy fuck did I undervalue it.

Even 15inch laptops seem way to big for me.

If you are going to bring this to school, to class, don't waste your money on a "gaming laptop" or a 17inch monster. See if you can get a deal on a smaller xps or alienware, you'll be happy you did.

I read into that lenova.... and researched that yea that graphics card would minimally support any games after this year.
Wasnt really sure about that so i can't comment on it but

@Boyiee.... My School Rents out laptops.... those normal sized Macbooks pro's and there small ass screens annoy they shit out of me.
I cant stand them becuase there so light and portable. I feel like the only thing i can do is open my email lol.

I had this machine last before it died
    http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/gate...-32976305.html

Absolutely loved the design plus size of it.... I would take it to class n people would be like "Damn thats huge" and i loved it.
So i'm just accustomed to 17~ computers now that i can get a few years out of

I do have a question tho....

I'm getting ready to buy this laptop from this guy.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220733

Can anyone give me a Pro/Con list of this machine?

    1. Would a Quad-Core Laptop be more beneficial to me, with 1. School. 2. Gaming. 3. Fraps/Video recording applications. in that order.
I would like to play and record with minimal fps drops.

    2. He is asking for 425$ Shipped... with laptop being rarely used for about 1 year. This is within my budget and an awesome price seeing how new these go for 750+.

    3. Most games for Recommended GPU apart from minimum this card comes up the GTX 260 or better. How many years do you think i could get out of this machine.

    4. Would you Recommend a laptop cooler?

Edit: http://dealzon.com/deals/toshiba-15-...ite-p755-s5269 after looking at this.... i would sacrifice my screen requirement for an I7... and GTX 560.
But i was told I5... Outperform I7... as weird as that sounds (Tech Major at school).

Comparing that laptop and this one the above guy is selling me. Which would you pick and why

The Asus is a couple years old, it's kinda meh. For school its more than fine, but for gaming you're talking medium to low settings on anything released lately. The price sounds about right for what it is, but don't expect it to retain it's value well.

Laptop coolers never really appealed to me... keep the airways clear is more effective. Gaming laptops get hot, nothing you can do will change that, a cooler is more for your comfort (if you use it on your lap) than anything else. That second link doesn't work so can't compare.

Eh, just bought one recently, and my laptop runs about 5c cooler with it (on my desk, obviously it's even more effective on my lap/bed/etc). Certainly it's not a huge difference, but for $10, i'm pretty happy i got it.

I would definitely upgrade the HDD. If not dual driving with SSD+HDD, at least 7200?RPM.

You dont want a 7200rpm hdd because of the amount of movement and such. Its pretty much 5400 or ssd.

Runs applications faster, cooler (temperature, not aesthetics), and saves energy. And I wish Boyiee had said that a few months ago!
