As simple as it was before with mini-forks, it's gotten even easier with the synergy warp earrings. I'd imagine it would only take an hour or two a day to wipe all of them out with proper preparation, which I would imagine beats the hell out of cruor parties in gil made/time spent(obviously you can cruor burn 24/7, though). That's the only explanation I can come up with.

This was actually how I made gil back in the day with 4 characters (2 SMN 75 made this very easy), which funded a decent chunk of my relic (about 20%). Took about 2.5 hours iirc a day. Usually did it right before JP midnight so I could go again right after. Wasn't much money (made about 460k in 2 runs with the chocobo fees already deducted), but it was steady income. Most annoying was going through the convo's over and over again, just give me my key item! =D

oh, no, I understand the sentiment of WHY the money was taken, but the action just seems iffy to me.

but who am I to judge, I deem that if I was in the same position I'd have taken the 50 dollars for a few days of your time too.
