Granted, PLD really shouldn't be played without a real weapon, but generally speaking I rarely touch things like Flash. Sentinel is fine, free invincible etc, but not because of the enmity. Self-curing in any situation where you're capable of damage is pretty silly.

To be frank, it seems as if you went off on somebody about their inability to play paladin while you yourself had no idea what you were talking about.

I myself do not know Paladin, so I am not being a smartass when I ask, than what's the point of playing Paladin if you don't use spells/Ja's given, and from what you just explained, you should just be dealing damage? Or is it just the majority of people (myself obviously included) don't understand how Pld works and with correct mdt/pdt/tp/ws/etc swaps + aegis/ochain + a decent weapon that's what makes Pld decent to use?

Oh I know a good chunk of holding hate is mostly the damage. CDC is a big plus for holding hate, and frankly if I get a PLD without it, I give them up as worthless. Admittedly I don't have PLD leveled and my conception of PLD is from non-VW; I'm used to them healing themselves rather than fuddling about at 100 HP swinging their sword for 0-20 damage tops. JAs for damage reduction as well as enmity so that it doesn't go after the WHM for one Cure IV would be nice too.

But again, I'm not a PLD. This is just the conception I've built from watching it in various events, and frankly he just fails period. But I'll admit that I'm not the best observer either.

I get that your dmg output is a huge help in the hate you have and that having a good weapon/ws obviously is useful but there's more to being a good pld than pumping out CDC's, ya?

Well, there's using Sentinel. The 1800 VE, +100 Enmity for 30 seconds, and free Invincible more than make up for the JA delay. Otherwise? Not really. Shield bash is good when you need a stun or a proc, but it's not a hate tool by any means. Flash and Rampart are junk. Cures are ultra junk. Paladin is a B-tier DD with a couple broken shields to abuse when Fanatic's/Fool's are down. It's just not a technical job these days.

The more damage people (the PLD included) do, the less important all the heeby jeeby magical technical stuff becomes. If we all went back to hitting 200 damage WS with 60% accuracy and 40% total Haste, then those tools might come back into play. Otherwise, it's a waste of time and lowers both your overall Enmity and damage due to JA/casting delay.

It does if you actually read the tables and realize that cures and JAs are primarily VE generators. Cures at least generate some CE, but non-Sentinel JAs are shit for hate generation.
