Got into a car accident

So, couple days ago wife got into a car accident and she was at fault apparently. So I tried contacting the insurance company to report it and they said the policy was cancelled a month ago due to a bounced check. I didn't get any notification of this because as of the 5th of January we were moving due to a home invasion. They said they couldn't do anything and I basically had to renew my insurance policy.

So what do I do now? I'm not entirely sure and I'm kind of freaking out. How screwed am I?

Short story is you're going to have to pay out of pocket for everything, to replace/repair cars as needed and possibly medical bills. The other person's insurance will probably cover some of it then bill you for it. This kind of shit has to be paid too, if you don't the other person can get a court order against you for the dollar amount and have your license suspended if you don't pay.

What insurance company did you have, was it a cheapo one? I've had this happen to me twice(one the accident was my fault, the other wasn't but the person at fault fled the country) where they don't notify you but say 'at the time' your policy was cancelled, it's a standard practice. One of them they had even accepted and cashed a check for the payment in question, but since it was two days late they said they had canceled the policy but then reinstated it after the crash.

If you didnt keep track of your finances and didnt notice the money wasnt taken out of your account or didnt notify the isurance company of a change of address/contact within a reasonable amount of time that is on yall.

They should be fine here, she likely had a piece of paper in her car stating she had coverage at the time even if she didn't, they don't typically go back and retroactively ticket in this type of case.

Unfortunately insurance companies are well within their rights to drop you the second you don't pay. It's a dick thing to do but as it was stated above if you didn't notice money being taken out that's on you. Sorry dood. Good luck with it.

Well, mine was under salvage title, twice. Had the other driver hit our side door and T-boned it. So it's pretty much totaled. The other car was crunched in the front. Police says my wife was at fault even though the other driver was going a good 50 in a 25 MPH zone. (As stated by wife)

How is that possibly her fault? Did she run a stop sign/red light?

Turning left at a stop sign and the other driver hit from incoming left traffic, when the other driver didn't have a stop sign.

If this is the case, can they get money from the insurance company?

No, the insurance company will deny the claim. The police absolutely could go back and issue her a ticket for driving, it's just not something that they'd put resources into following up on.

I had to pay out of pocket to replace the guy's car(about $6k), lost a job so I couldn't make the payments, got a court judgment against me for the amount that resulted in my license being suspended until I finally paid it all off. I also didn't even get to pay it all off on my terms, they got my another order that froze my bank account and let them take the money out.

Yup that would put her at fault. Pretty much when you're turning left, everything is your fault unless someone blows through a stop sign or red light and hits you. Turning left = never have the right of way regardless of how fast the other person was going.

My friend hit this lady's car back in like 2005 when he had no insurance (the car had insurance, but it was his uncle's and he wasn't covered under it). He had to pay an $80 citation for not having insurance and the lady had to pay out of pocket because she didn't have uninsured motorist coverage.

This is what my insurance company told me too. They said if you are hit by someone without insurance then your own insurance is responsible for covering it and the other person gets a fine (if you have uninsured driver coverage).

My wife was in an accident about 4 months ago. It was just a little "bump", but it messed up her neck something fierce.
We ended up having to get a lawyer because of the other guy's "insurance" problems and he's refusing to help pay the medical bills.
If he comes up with a pile of medical bills and you don't have auto insurance, get ready to lawyer up.

Idk he never mentioned it though and every time we bring that story up and laugh our asses off about it, he never mentions having to have paid anything more later
