Got into a car accident

My friend hit this lady's car back in like 2005 when he had no insurance (the car had insurance, but it was his uncle's and he wasn't covered under it). He had to pay an $80 citation for not having insurance and the lady had to pay out of pocket because she didn't have uninsured motorist coverage.

This is what my insurance company told me too. They said if you are hit by someone without insurance then your own insurance is responsible for covering it and the other person gets a fine (if you have uninsured driver coverage).

Her insurance will cover it, but guess who her insurance company is going to be suing to recover those funds...

We were popped by an uninsured motorist, hit and run. We got the plates, my insurance covered our costs and sued her. We also had a $500 deductible. Now we get a monthly check from the lady who hit us until she covers our deductible.

If your in cali, wife is going to lose her license. I got popped by two people scamming insurance, where one guy cut off his friend, friend hit breaks, i went into him. Got home, had a letter from a fly by night insurance company that cancelled me for non payment, when I called them they told me the check must have gotten lost by them but i was sol. Had a restricted license for a year and 2 years of having to keep an SR-22 form on file with the DMV and any lapse would cause my license to get suspended. The only thing that really saved me from getting financially raped is when the other guys insurance called me and was demanding 1800 for a bent trailer hitch and when I demanded pics of the damage as it was nothing more then a scraped bumper, they got spooked and settled for 250.

No, the insurance company will deny the claim. The police absolutely could go back and issue her a ticket for driving, it's just not something that they'd put resources into following up on.



I had to pay out of pocket to replace the guy's car(about $6k), lost a job so I couldn't make the payments, got a court judgment against me for the amount that resulted in my license being suspended until I finally paid it all off. I also didn't even get to pay it all off on my terms, they got my another order that froze my bank account and let them take the money out.

I would have let those people know they can stop dicking me or I would kill them. I'd be less subtle of course.

How come so many people in the US still us cheques?

My brother got hit by an uninsured driver a few years ago. Not sure if US is the same, sounds like from the thread that it's not, but over here part of every motor insurance policy goes into a fund for the motor insurance bureau. The bureau then compensates drivers hit by uninsured drivers and goes after the uninsured driver. They also compensate in cases where the other vehicle is unidentified, hit and run etc.
