Perhaps, but when I look at the video of the 54 Lancer and she only used 2 additional moves from my level 14 Lancer, and then I look at the skill chart and see a bunch of XXX III and YYY VII progression to moves, it makes me a little nervous about how much fun I'm going to feasibly have grinding mobs solo in a game that is decidedly Korean, which means decidedly grindy in some way, shape or fashion.

Lancer is probably not the ideal job if you want to play solo. Clearly lances can solo big stuff, but they are slow and repetitive when it comes to killing smaller monsters. Personaly, I wouldn't try lancer unless I knew I was going to share the grinding time with other people.

It's just as fast (maybe faster?) and definitely more fun to level and mob grind with another person and Lancer becomes trully fun when you actualy fight with a party, where you juggle with enmity and damage mitigation.

I can definitely empathize with your view about Lancer solo since this is the main reason I'm not going for it on my first go through the game. I simply don't want to make the grind to cap boring and slow. If you expect to solo a lot, perhaps considering another class would be better.

I think I will, and will roll lancer once the guild decides it needs tanks for endgame. I'll spend the next few betas trying out the other classes.

I wonder if Lancer get's a "just guard" kind of skill later on. For some reason I play lancer like I do royal guard from DMC and often fail to just hold the button down for easy guards lol.

I think most tanking jobs are boring when solo but far more exciting when in a big party or tanking something hard. I don't remember a MMO/RPG where this wasn't really the case.

I actually liked to grind on my prot pally (back end of BC and through WotLK) more than I liked to tank with it, but I'm an odd-ball sometimes. I loved hearing the sound of 50 people beating on me with nothing but blocks, while my AOE burned them to a crisp.

Prot pally is a whole different animal. Here its closer to soloing FFXI Pld sword and board on EP crabs to cap. Even the die hards for WS points wouldn't do it without DD gear and weap.

This is the reason I stopped leveling lancer. It got a bit repetitive and I didn't really feel it. Sorcerer was a lot more fun for me even before the move while casting passive.

I plan to play a fair amount of solo so I think I'm going to make sorcerer my main. Lancer looks like a blast with a group though.

Lancer or bust!!! Actually, until I realized I needed to be my group's tank, I was really looking at Slayer and Berserker. After playing those classes it was hard to get used to the narrow, straight line thrusts of a lancer from the large, wheeling sweeps of the other two classes. I really grew to like it though. Perhaps I am a bit too utilitarian and just enjoy the simplicity of the lancer and the role it plays for a group. I figure I’ll be focusing more on the large death dealing monster in my grill than the (limited) variety of my attack motions.

I wouldn't say narrow attack lane. More of a conical alley. Can stand off center and still land all hits.

Edit: Oh and ps, Elins hold a shield like a bitch. You need to put some FORCE behind that "Thou shalt not pass!" stance

Hey anyone else having issues with controllers? First off, i use the official xbox controller for windows. it installed itself, the game finds it and sets it up for the game, everything fine.

The controller works fine, but sometimes my char just randomly starts to walk in one direction by itself.
Mashing a few buttons might fix it soemtimes, unplugging doesnt. i already tried to turn off auto-walk with controller and keyboard, doesnt help.

I had that problem, I unplugged my chatpad, and it seemed to stop, at least from what I remember. I also relogged so that may have been it? Wired controller.

Nuke and run like mad when you get hate ^.^

Is their any way to see other peoples damage in your parties, friend and I always wanted to compare besides just telling our numbers.

Think I saw chat filters in one of the menus with this option.

Hows the crafting system in the game really, because finding gear that looks nice, from what I've read it's that it comes from crafting. Next CBT would it be worth trying to up my cloth to try and make something nice for my Sorcerer besides trying to save 1.5mil to get something from the npcs?

I don't believe buying gear from NPCs is ever the best route to take, though I could be wrong in this case, lol.

I mean gear for cosmetic purposes only, since all the best low level gear looks crappy for cloth.

I would def say try out crafting to some semi-serious degree during one of the CBTs. I've been trying out weapon smithing. THe general rule is that crafted gear isnt ever going to be as good as a raid or boss drop, however that's not to suggest its totally inferior. You can also upgrade crafted stuff and most of it (all?) is able to be dyed, enhanced and... arg I forget the last term, but you can take stats from other gear and make it look like the gear of your choice. So say you craft some armor that you really love the look of and then you get some armor thats fugly but sweet stats, you can take those stats and put it on the armor you crafted. Best of both worlds

I called it skinning, but what happens is you take the skin, from your crafted gear, and graft it onto the fugly armor, that has the better stats. You then have the better stat armor, with the appearance of the cooler looking crafted armor. The process consumes the crafted armor, and you'd have to make another crafted armor, if you wanted to graft that look onto another piece of armor that you find later on.

Yeah one of the things I like about TERA is that craft-able gear looks really nice (I think this is the major selling point) since most dropped gear, especially dungeon bosses, are superior in stats but not always in looks. Hence why that part comes in. I'm glad that we get buffs from gathering, I noticed it several times when I was playing. I actually some random nice person was sending me a buff. Silly me!
