This is a stupid question, but the loot options are pissing me off and I'm curious how exactly I should have it set or should I just be leaving it as the default? I just don't want anyone to get screwed out of loot and I'm just worried I'm going to mess it up. >.> I just want it to let people roll on blue quality or better and only if they can equip it.

I usually put it on class only for pugs, sometimes they'd even ask to do so before the run. However, I ran most of my dungeons with the same group so knew what drops they were getting. Eventually we just left it on default since everyone was already geared. Blues went to winning roll to enchant/sell, golds we used need or greed. There's the box to check to set it to class only and specify the tier of drops to roll on if your groups prefers that instead.

There's some check boxes to activate class only, then there's a drop down box to select the rarity of items that apply to this rule. Rare = blue+, which is what you are wanting.

Finaly, another drop down will define if people have to manualy roll or it will be auto distributed. The auto distribution is called "Random".

Both the manual and auto rolls are governed by the previous rule, so if you had set class-only even if you set it on manual roll the classes that can equip it will be the only ones being prompted to roll.

With a PUG I would prettery much only set it to class auto distribution. I don't want people to waste their time rolling and most definitely not giving the chance to some random asshat of ninjaing items that he's just going to sell.

Ofcourse, if your PUG is already geared then you may want to allow open rolling, since everyone is there for enchantment materials anyway.

Sorry, I tried what I can to read a lot of the threads here but I can't specifically find any answers, nor would the official site provide me with what I want to know! But these are some extremely simple noobish questions:

1. After looking at all the classes, I think Lancer is what I'll go for. I looked at what roles each class can perform, but is there a "Paladin" from WoW? One that can tank, heal and DPS? I understand the roles given by the official site, but just incase I am missing some sort of "unlock advanced class" or something which would let me do more
2. Due to how the classes seem predefined in role, once a tank (Lancer) am I forever a tank? Can I still DPS when not tanking? ; I think it'll be easy to gear up a Lancer. I only share gear with 1 class, and the shields all belong to me!
NOTE: The site suggests Lancer can DPS just as well as any other along with being able to tank, seems plausible in the context of class balance
3. Can I use swords/axes/maces as well to tank with? Fulltiming a lance is ok, but would prefer an opportunity to use other things
4. View on lancers from the testers here? I'm not in the test ... do they need buff? nerf?
5. Just like WoW, it's "pick 1 class, play it forever" right? Until I make an alt, I think I read some posts here already about it about what some people are going to do. But it seems odd the game wants to hole you into 1 class, 1 role only. I fear about it in the long term
6. According to the sticky, BG seems to be heading to a World PVP server, and this time, I want to be with BG as well in a game, for once!. There doesn't seem to be any "factions", I was wondering how that works? I understand the outlaw system and stuff, but as it stands it seems like a massive free-for-all fest in open areas, even if you're playing with friends!

1. + 2. Self-heal on Lancer, and no, you can't really DPS on it. The roles are pretty clearly defined in this game, as far as I've found.

3. Every class gets only one weapon type. The good news is that it makes it pretty easy to gear yourself up, since you don't have to do a bunch of comparisons, and it makes it so that one particular weapon type isn't relegated to bottom-feeding, but of course, you only get one weapon per class, which can be boring.

4. Can't really comment; I stopped leveling mine around 15. My take is that they're going to be a lot of fun when tanking BAMs and huge mobs, but not for much else. Perhaps it'll be fun leashing everyone in PVP, but I haven't seen it in action yet.

5. Pick one class and play it forever, yes. The only "roles" I can think of would be like Warrior being able to dodge-tank or DPS, or a Destroyer able to block-tank some early level BAMS, but that's about it.

6. No factions, but if you hate a rival guild enough, you can essentially make them a separate faction by declaring war on them. Its pretty free-for-all-ish, but as of right now, the free-for-all-ness only lasts until someone decides to sit at the edge of town and attempt to gank people coming out, then head back into town to make them-self untargetable.

To comment on #4 and Lancer in general; they really shine during BAM/boss fights. This is why lancers were made imo, you control the fight almost entirely and can allow your teammates to do their jobs to the full extent of their ability. It's really fun and exciting imo. Sadly your damage is garbage. You are blending in attacks to regain MP and then use that MP to absorb hits with your shield and use other abilities on the BAM. On regular/trash mobs your damage is ok but pretty much every other class outdoes you there expect probably Priest and Mystic.

This isn't my best tank work but if you haven't seen a lot of Lancer footage its a pretty good idea on what my idea of fun is

This makes the game seem a lot more easier to play, and a lot less to think about it. I'm only focused on one thing and not too worried on anything else.

Account/character wise, is it like FFXI where I can select any server regardless of continent? For example, I'd like to have a "main" char in the US with BG, and an "alt" char somewhere in the EU if my friends start playing. Regarding ping concerns brought up by that thread, I'm confident the best ping is only required for bleeding edge gameplay, and I'm not made of that. So i'll probably live.

EDIT: I forgot, but in my usual PC magazine nearly a year ago, they have an interview with a Tera developer/guy/thing. He mentions even the lowest ping the game is playable, i.e. on 3G connection. Although i dunno if he meant "korea 3g" (where it is blistering fast, I bet) or "shitty UK 3g" where everything is abysmal.

I don't mind for low damage thinking about it, given my track record I'm not the type of person to max out DPS, but I seem to excel well in tanking in general!

As I am a block tank, I guess my ability to time dodges (not that I would suck at it, but the game implies "skill" is important, including dodging attacks) is less important? haha

I just hope my "tanky-ness" would allow me to durable enough for DPSers to spend "real" effort to try and take me down. i.e. in WoW being a fully decked out pvp tank means fuck all since a mage can still blow the shit out of you, but despite how hard WoW tries it's not the most balanced...

PvP, any battleground type games? Capture the flag, defend the castle, etc
Party & Raid (player) sizes: 5, 10, 20, 30?

Followup on more of Stig's questions. You might be able to get a NA copy of TERA, produced by EME, but there is a specific European release and European servers. From my understanding, the NA/EME client will only access the NA servers, and the EU client will only access EU servers. Thus to accomplish the "NA main" and "EU alt" you would need two different copies of the game, and two subscriptions.

As for your 3G wireless connection, that might not be the best idea. Since this is an action MMO, ping does matter. If you can't play TF2 reliably over your 3G because of lag, I doubt TERA would work very well - especially playing a Lancer.

I imagine lancer is pretty fun to PvP with, cause I find them annoying as hell on Mystic. Shield Block blocks *everything* meaning I can't land debuffs on a Lancer facing me with his shield up. So when a Lancer specifically is targeting me, I get the hell out of there which is hard because the Lancer dash goes on for slightly longer than my teleport will and their lances have a pretty long reach on top of leash and shield stuns. It's pretty much "hope they go after my party mates instead" but not likely cause I'm the healer. Teleport cooldown reset glyph is pretty much mandatory.

unless you have like 20+ eu friends get the NA copy then convince them to join you. Evidently Frogster is a nightmare to deal with(other peoples experiences and an overall consensus).

Elesirdur: oh noooooo. Well I'll have to just get the US copy then from US Amazon unless otherwise specified! Then hope my braindead friends not play the game. And regarding the 3G explaination, it was just a quote from what I remember from the Tera interview. However, bear in mind that Asian (Japan, Korea and Hong Kong especially) 3G is top-notch and way more refined/tuned/faster than the western counterparts (from what my family in Hong Kong tells me, many people do not have landline internet connections and instead rely on mobile broadband).

Pre-order copies, nothing special about it right? I mean, I don't see a point if everyone's gonna have that same mount, haha. Except if 3 years down the line I'm one of the 100s of people who remain playing amongst a sea of noobs and I can be a special snowflake with it.

This last CBT I leveled a Lancer and I have to say the class (so far at 32) is everything I've wanted from a shield tank. Lancer + Bams = amazing.

The active mitigation style coupled with the fact that threat actually matters in this game makes the act of tanking such a joy.

I have a feeling this was asked before, but I can't seem to find it looking back through the thread; are all BAMs (especially those found throughout the open world, such as Basilisks, Kumases, or Naga Mercenaries, just to name a few) considered "bosses?" That is to say, which crystals would I equip for them ('boss' crystals versus 'normal monsters' crystals)?
