I played FFXI for what... 9 years? I've dabbled with WoW, Lineage 2, Final Fantasy XIV, Guild Wars and a bunch of smaller titles during that time. Nothing, until now, could divert my attention from FFXI. This game is all about aiming and being active, moving and being unpredictable, reading your opponent and deciding your attacks in between their attacks. This game throws action at you in the truest sense and once you get a taste of it every other MMO at the moment looks bland and uninteresting.

I'm currently rolling a lancer and I have to pay attention to the monster at all times. If I don't I have a high chance of getting caught up in attacks that can devastate my HP bar, get knocked down or get trampled for multiple hits. Lancer gets some unique abilities to counter these situations, the most important being Stand Fast which mitigates a certain amount of damage from your shield (amount is listed on your lance/shield). Going from a Paladin in FFXI to Lancer in Tera is such a rewarding experience in my opinion. The number one thing being that my shield isn't there just for show. Will this game be for everyone one? No it won't, but it's definitely for me and I plan on playing it for a long time.

Kind of playing off Krelian's questions, does anyone play with the controller? From the videos I found it seems like it's plausible but navigating the menus suck. My entire 6 years on ffxi was spent with a controller. The only game I played on the PC while using the keyboard and mouse was CoD:4. I think I could figure out the keyboard/mouse but it would take some time. However, I just love the ease of movement and camera control when using the gamepad.

Also, is there a reason why most MMOs do not allow more than one job per character?

Alright thanks this is the kind of information I am looking for. Sounds like it's worth playing!

I currently play my Lancer with a controller, however my Mystic and Berserker I play mouse/keyboard (naga mouse/nostromo keypad). Controller is pretty fluid and can be adjusted in game. Best thing I can say is try both and see which feels better for you.

Is there any indication CB4 will allow a third character slot?

Like Eddard, I use a controller for playing Lancer. For the exact same reasons you are asking about; I played FFXI with one and missed that feeling. I think a keyboard/mouse combo would work well too, but I didn't want to invest in a fancy mouse and I'm pretty sure I'd be breaking my keyboard with all the block button bashing I am doing. Also didn't like the idea of taking my hands off wasd for hitting skill keys #7+

Also with the controller, you get a lot of customization and chained skills are especially awesome when you have limited buttons to set skills at. If you plan on playing Tera with a controller, my best advice to you is to get accustomed to chained skills as early as possible. You will need to tweak the controller interface to get it to work (it's preset to X but I forget why it doesn't work, Greatguardian figured it out and you have to remap the chained skill button. for me i set it to Square/X (on an xbox controller) which also plays as the jump button). Because I couldn't use chained skills early it feels awkward to use them @32. But I guarantee it will be a necessity for controller players at later levels.

....that may explain why my chained skills work like half the time. thought it was just lag. thanks ~

If you are unaware, under skills when you click the chain skill button, you will see listed above or below the skill and its chain move you want to happen, a box that states, do you want to see skill chains out of combat. You may want to make sure you allow out of combat chains, this way if a mob dies, or you are trying to test a new skillchain out, it will show up on the screen, else a mob that moves out of range, or dies and your trying to get to the next mob quickly, the chain may not show up.

Is it right to assume: Chained Skill = a macro assigned to a button on controller which is basically a script of:

    /use ability 1
    /wait1
    /use ability 2

    and so on?

I would dearly love to use my PS2 controller again. I see in Rulke's video it seems to be using a PS2 controller as seen on the bottom right, I was most curious of that, been paying attention to it. I figured by the looks of it he was switching between 2 or 3 "macro sets" as the icons seemed to be on a rotation.

No mention of the PS2 controller though, but it clearly seems to support XBOX360 one as I keep seeing that name pop up.

That is also how I currently feel, despite not having touched the game but I can see the same feeling on Rulke's video. I am also a tank-orientated player as in FFXI and also WoW.

^That sounds like a typical response from someone who's first MMO was FFXI.

And no. Combo skills are meant to delay/remove the animation for the follow-up attack. Has nothing to do with continuous automatic skills.

Plus some chained skills get a benefit from a previous skill. Overhand strike on slayer is one of these. It goes faster when you use it immediately after most other skills. I don't have it on my hotbar any more since it probably shouldn't ever be used on its own.

When you type "/controller" it brings up an options menu for the controller and selecting "type 2" changes the look of the controller to the PSX controller buttons.

Thanks for the clear up. I can imagine what you mean now. And thanks Artemicon for revealing about the controller thing. Now to try my absolute best to get into beta haha!

I know I am late but, hi Amiricle. I think you were in Apathy when I was leading it and Gosu/Syntax brought you over.

But yes, as a BLM at heart myself sorcerer fit me like a glove. Doing 200k plus crits on hard mode dungeon bosses and then running like a bitch feels just right. With the changes Sorc is going to be even more of a monster as well.

@ the stig: the game auto detected my controller and correctly assigned the ps2 layout, but as stated you can choose either

Are there any good places to find recommended glyphs for all classes? I know it doesn't matter -too- much while leveling, especially since you get better and better moves as you level and would probably have to change your glyphs as you get higher, but I like seeing people's suggestions in case I happened to not notice something useful about a certain glyph, etc. and I'd like to be ready for the future.

    Yep, thats me. Heya =^.^=

Chimin in on the controller, I find that while it does work quite well for a melee class, I personally prefer mouse/gamepad (logitech G13) for a ranged class. (i.e. while playin lancer & berserker, I liked my controller more, but for sorc & priest I found the controller to be a handicap compared to mouse/gamepad).
