i'm @ 1920 x 1080 with detail bars at, or near max but everything looks incredibly low-res unless i'm zoomed in close enough to look like the char creation screen, is that normal? If it isn't then my aging pc simply can't handle this game and the rest of this post is irrelevant...

Also, I started playing and I still have no idea what the plot of this game is. A gaggle of magical and ancient races coming together to fight a big bad of some kind? Most of the races are asian-original (not just humans, orcs, dwarfs and elvs) and completely unfamiliar but the opening cs is just a random team of them flying to a training island?

I found the char select screens to be very uninformative about what species are best at what classes (or if species have ANY +/- of any kind) or if they start in different areas or if heal/support classes get attacks to level with (flashes of leveling whm solo until pt level) or if armor eventually covers camel toes...

I really was excited to try this game, but within 30 minutes of starting (after the 30 mins at the char select screen) I couldn't see the point in continuing. I'm sure it gets better, but the unfamiliar UI and, honestly, just cheap feeling graphics and gameplay that where both supposed to be amazing were a big letdown for me. I really don't plan to continue unfortunately. Glad the rest of you could find your next MMO in this title, but I'm guessing it's going to be a niche like Rift and Aion are.

Lol, because support classes don't have any ability to deal dmg or level in a modern day mmo? You really need that spelled out at the character creation screen that a support class can do dps to level?

Unfamiliar UI? What game have you played outside XI? Not trying to sound like an ass, but all your comments make it seem like you haven't played anything else but XI. And if graphics are as terrible as you say then it's your gpu. Game isn't XIV, but it's pretty

That's one of the points of having such flavored races, is that none of them really excell at any particular class. The races are balanced so that it's based on your aesthetic choice rather than min/maxing (although some might argue some races are better than others, others will argue that it only matters which race you enjoy playing). If I want to be an Aman priest, I'm going to be just as good at it as a popori priest, or any other race. They're not going to be better at being a priest than me based solely on their racial choice.

Also, if you only played for what... 30 minutes? I'm guessing you didn't get much farther than level 5 or 6? At this point and time you're really still in tutorial mode, and you're not going to get to the real meat of the game until around level 20. If you give up on a game within 30 minutes, that's pretty unfair IMO, but to each their own, if you hate it that much already.

Edit: Also, if you're actually interested in finding more information about each of the classes, you can easily find a shit ton of it. In the media section there's a thread called "Domeran's Class Guides" and it tells you pretty much everything you'd ever want to know about every class (except Zerker and Slayer, he hasn't done those yet). Every class in this game is fully capable of holding their own as long as you have the patience to actually play the game.

When I first played in CBT1, my graphics were pretty shit too, but I had an old overheating graphics card and only 3gigs of ram. I bought a new PSU, a GTX 550ti graphics card, and 8gigs of ram, and it runs beautifully now. You really do need 4 or more gigs of ram or your game is going to stutter like mad.

    Wat? Lol?
    1st what's your computer specs
2nd the story actually develops over time, the hobbits don't cross the road in front of bilbos house and throw the ring in to the local volcano ya know?
3rd how can you not like the game play? That's honestly the game changing WIN,IMO, that will give this game some staying power.
Katlans right though, have you played any mmos outside of FF11? Once you do, and you realize how fucking horrible SE handled that game (I love you XI, but lets be real) your mind will be blown away.
And races have next to nothing to do with classes, the only difference is what latent ability you'd like to have and what you want to look like

Yeah, my "gaming" pc was a thanksgiving weekend newegg sale premade three years ago with an old i5 and all i've done is bump it up to 8gb ram and put in a $100 gtx 9800+ a couple years ago. That's why I completely accept the possibility that my PC can't handle the game that well.

Sorry to get you all in defensive mode. I do plan to give it another go this weekend. It's just that my first try at playing left me with absolutely no idea what the purpose of my character was and the TPS aiming system + the lolF-keys being used for the hotbar (I didn't check long enough, can you cutomize keybinds to anything but numbers, mouse and F-keys?) left me feeling like I was playing a F2P.

Also, I now realize that choosing archer may have been a safe choice, but probably not a fun way to try out the aim/dodging that makes this game unique. But, I was fixated on those difficulty stars on the char select screen that basically said anything other than ranged requires at least knowing what the buttons do...

Go pick slayer. It's loleasy mode for a long time. The graphics are pretty damn good in this game, especially compared to XI.

Question: I'm getting an error at TERA startup saying that my patch checker.exe cannot be found. It let's me into the game no problem, but I assume eventually a patch will come out and I'll be kinda screwed. Anybody else see this? Can I get this file someplace and put it in the correct directory?

Yes, you can rebind stuff to your liking.

And the starting experience is basically the normal MMO-"you're a special snowflake and needs to save the world"-deal, not sure what you mean you didn't get your purpose, or why it would matter really.

It's not defensive mode, there is a big difference. I just don't think anybody understands where you are coming from. your GPU is severely outdated, your i5 sounds like it could use an OC unless you got a closed system that might not even allow you to OC (in that case its prolly bottom of the barrel i5).
And yea, especially if your playing a ranged or a caster, the game is nothing special until you get off noob island and get more abilities.

Where/When does the quest for Kaia bindings pop up? I swear I had it before when I was in the woods..but I must have missed it somewhere.

Kaia's Bindings are selectable rewards from repeatable quests. You can get 3 per repeatable quest. They work surprisingly well.

I got this too the first time I logged in Tera Friday, but it seems to have corrected itself... So no clue. Said something like "Missing EME file checker.exe etc etc." I'll get full message and post if I see it again.

If you are refering to the Tutorial (mission) quest by that name, it's at lv20 so it should pop at like lv18 I think.

I must have either totally missed it or its been joined into the Into the Shadow Basin chain. I dont remember the quest to kill Rajat giving 3 bindings before. Been a long time though so maybe it did.

Alright, I take back most of what I said before, but it does seem as though my PC won't be able to handle the game well enough to justify buying it. I know I've waited too long to upgrade, but when ME3 demo worked on it I was relieved enough to not worry about it anymore XD

I started a berserker and that shit is fun (as I assume the other non-ranged classes are). I kept the cam zoomed in so graphics were better as well. But, I'm the galka-ish race and I keep forgetting to aim at little things by looking down all the time.

Example of shit PC: table =/=

    Spoiler: show

NPCs take at least 5 seconds to render, until then they look like they belong in a cell-shaded game.

Q: How big an issue is lag to block/dodge stuff in group fights? Are there really slow attack animations to compensate?
    - what's all this about priest not being a useful class in groups? Does the mystic main heal or is there just no need for a healer?

Im assuming an i5 dual core, with a 9800 you should be fine...your textures look awfully detailed for the 1 preset.

It's just bullshit, you generally do need a healer and both Priest and Mystic can fill the role perfectly.

pff... char creation screen feeding me bs about how it just support heals and does pet and minor dps...

that ss is a still, the game doesn't run very smooth at that detail at all. I'll try lowering, but I actually thought the environment was pretty low res already, just the characters were really detailed.

also, it's actually i5 quad but just 2.7ghz.

    edit: turned down graphics from a 4 preset to a 2 and it's still very choppy ; ;

What FPS do you consider "very choppy"?
