If it's anything other than a highly partisan ruling, I will be surprised.

You're a fucking moron for hinging all of your opinions on that of a few people as if nobody else can synthesize a legitimate opinion.

    Mandate survives as a tax.

The liveblog is now saying that the ACA is upheld as a tax but not required to purchase insurance under mandate, it's complicated.

Why is it bullshit? Entire ACA is essentially upheld. Only difference is the mandate is a tax penalty instead of a fine or whatever it was called. That's how it should have been drafted anyway. Would have never hit the courts if it was imposed as a tax penalty.

Yeah. The whole thing was a battle of semantics and how you view the situation. Don't want health insurance? Tax penalty that is way less than what you would pay in premiums. Done.

Now let's see where we go from here... Here comes the bullshit. lol

If the mandate had been ruled unconstitutional but the rest of the law upheld it would have forced a conversation regarding other funding methods which could have resulted in significantly better healthcare reform. I am not a huge fan of the current law

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but what they're saying is that the mandate can stand as a tax? If true so much for Obama not raising taxes on the middle working class.

While I agree with you to a certain extent... I find it unlikely that this would have enraged people into going the Single Payer route. Also, the way I see it, let's not overturn our current new healthcare law in hopes that we'll pass another one in 5 years (with the way congress moves - thats being generous).

Synbios: It was always a tax. But yeah thats going to be the complaint on the right. lol

He won't be raising taxes if they have insurance. It's really no different, it's just a different means of collecting the penalty. You can simply refuse to pay the tax if you wish.

    Ok from another forum:

"They're saying it was unconstitutional based on commerce clause but could be upheld based on their power to tax."

Wasn't John Roberts considered one of the conservative judges lol? Want to see how the Republicans spin this.
