I graduated so I don't have access to the online thingys any more.

Unless you want to pay me to go down to the medical library and start pulling shit off shelves

I was able to do all of the searching with Google Scholar.
It really is nifty. Had to use a VPN to get past the subscription wall on a couple of them.

    Different schools and shit.

It doesn't surprise me, considering these people did nothing for 5 years except dream up new ways to try to rip me off. Now that I'm not giving them money, they couldn't give two shits about me.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

didn't they show studies that if you switched from left to right handed it increased the chances of you stuttering or something?

just curious as this thread made me think of it, but it was one of those "someone told me someone told them" so never knew if that was really true or not.

This seems like the sort of nagging question that could be answered by going to Google Scholar and typing "stutter handedness"

holy shit, all of the articles are basically pre-1950
that's usually enough to make one start scratching their head in anything but pure experimental science

    I don't speak scientific moonspeak.

And from a quick glance from what I could understand, that's too vague as the studies seem to just be about whether left-handed people stutter more, vs. left-handed people who were forced to write right-handed.

It's not really too vague if you use it as a jumping point.
From what I can gather, I found a review of the literature from 1973 that states that there's no greater prevalence of stuttering in left-handed or ambidextrous individuals.
It seems as if the whole cerebral dominance thing turned out to be a bust when it comes to stuttering from what I can gather.

ya but that's not quite on target of specifically left-handed people turned right-handed. so may not be accurate. I "think" I'm getting closer by changing the term to "converted left-handed" which I guess is the official term, though it's a bit hard as I only understand like 30% of what they're talking about lol.

Looked on wikipedia, for a jumping point.
Something about learned left-handers. Almost no research published by anyone besides two authors.
Maybe it is accurate, but it really just seems fairly unsupported/controversial at a glance.

When a lot of the literature is older than dirt and there isn't much new lit., it's usually not the best sign.

kk good thing to get that cleared up or w/e.

I did find this though that I think means that converted left-handers' brains end up having to work harder or something. I think.

    http://www.jneurosci.org/content/22/7/2816.short

Until some decades ago, left-handed children who attended German schools were forced to learn to write with their right hand. To explore the long-term consequences of switching handedness, we studied the functional neuroanatomy of handwriting in 11 adult “converted” left-handers and 11 age-matched right-handers. All participants had used exclusively their right hand for writing since early childhood. Using [15O]H2O positron emission tomography, changes in normalized regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) were assessed while participants repetitively wrote a stereotyped word with their right hand. The kinematics of handwriting did not differ between converted left-handers and right-handers. In innate right-handers, handwriting caused a preponderant left-hemispheric activation of parietal and premotor association areas. In contrast, converted left-handers demonstrated a more bilateral activation pattern with distinct activation foci in the right lateral premotor, parietal, and temporal cortex. Moreover, foci in the right rostral supplementary motor area and the right inferior parietal lobule demonstrated a positive linear relationship between the degree of “left-handedness” and normalized rCBF during right-hand writing. Functional activity in the primary sensorimotor cortex was not affected by handedness. Our findings provide evidence for persisting differences in the functional neuroanatomy of handwriting between right-handers and converted left-handers, despite decades of right-hand writing. Right-hemispheric activation in converted left-handers may reflect suppression of unwanted left-hand movements. Alternatively, this activity may represent persistent left-handedness and, as such, demonstrate a hemispheric asymmetry of hand movement representations in cortical motor association areas in relation to the direction and degree of handedness.
Doesn't sound like it goes anywhere outside of different areas having to work differently because of it.

Obviously not related to stuttering, I just found it interesting even if I barely understand it. I'm left-handed btw, which is why I take an interest in this stuff. XD

I was about to say that studies might become harder over time just because less places are doing it, but I guess it's still very prevalent in a lot of Asian countries lol. Which is surprising to say the least.

In this case, it might come down to what a very wise prof once told me.
"If it's obvious to you, it's obvious to everyone."
Somebody very well may have looked at the data and realized they couldn't turn it into anything.
