I think you get that anywhere, really. Same thing happened to my friend here when they tried to bring him up in accessory to grand theft charges when he wasn't even anywhere near when it happened. They just kept trying to make him sign a confession.

You assholes best wait til I get the hell out of here first. It's just sad knowing that my home state will never allow this kind of change, and heartbreaking to think about what the gay community must go through in places like this. Hell, if there ever is a separation of states that support this, it will be an excuse to leave this ignorance-filled shit hole.

It's usually like this, I've even had gas paid for and avoided a ticket for going 85 in a 35. What I'm referring to is actually following them off post to their houses, finding their vehicles and waiting to harass, etc. It's very blatant but easily dealt with from the police standpoint in that they can't really do anything significant - unless there are charges pressed and you get 10 years for being somewhere where someone got stabbed and similar instances.

Yeah thats like finding a shiny pokemon... Conservatism have warped the very meaning of that word. Today's conservative are so far to the right that Nixon would be considered a liberal. Or better yet, Jesus would run for office and they would call him a socialist. lol

To say that I appreciated her determination to raise me to understand that there are other people on this earth whom I should respect would be an understatement. I highly respect her.

On that token, I am disappointed when people I know outright slander Republicans. It's as short-sighted as calling all liberals bleeding heart idiots, or just saying "liberals" when you're disgusted with something someone says—well, that or Democrats. Either way, it's nonsense, and a sad side-effect of how pitiful our political circus is today.

Despise someone because they're a fool, but don't generalize according to their political party, else you're as much a fool as they.

doesn't want to use the aggregated power of government to enforce a uniform moral code based on religion on the populace :0

it's amusing as most who self-identify as conservatives would call her decision liberal

i liked the Republican party better when libertarian + business friendly practices were the order of the day not evangelicalism

If she believes these things and is still a republican then she is a social liberal and fiscal conservative. Unfortunately, the republicans have consolidated their party and pressure all their members into voting as a block, so there are VERY few socially liberal/fiscal conservative republicans that actually vote this way. Democrats, on the other hand, do divide themselves, and this is why they can't come together to pass even the simplest laws when they're in the majority. People like Kohan's mother are just delusional or don't care when they vote republican and think that they are voting someone that represents their ideas.

I don't understand where "delusional" comes into play, unless you believe that anyone associated with the Republican party automatically qualifies as delusional, which wouldn't paint you in a very smart light.

Beyond that, being registered to either party only affects who you can vote for during the primaries. You can still vote for all manner of other things regardless.

As for my mother in particular, she believes in investing in our infrastructure, improving our educational standards, better wages for people in our country—you know, the things Republicans would support if they were really Republicans.

I wouldn't say that's delusional at all. The modern image of the Republican, however, is a frighteningly accurate portrayal of how out-of-touch people who modernly associate themselves with that party are.

The basic argument boils down to:

    Two party systems are stupid.
    Religion is stupid and divisive.
If you don't fit the mold of the two choices presented, you can't find representation.

    Kohan's mom sounds awesome.

You're mother is delusional because of exactly what you said.

All those things you listed are all socially/fiscally liberal ideas (with arguments around the "better wages", because if you're saying better wages for teachers then that means raising taxes, and that's a no-no). You also seem to think that what defines the republican party is what they've done in the [distant] past. Guess what makes a Republican a Republican? It's what the party does. The republicans don't do the things you've listed, so they aren't what make a Republican anymore. The Republican party, like any organization, is dynamic. Just because you may reject what they've become doesn't mean that it isn't what they are.

You're mother would be considered delusional if she considers herself to be a republican while still supporting these ideas, along with the ideas you mentioned earlier that she supported. I know this is going to come as a shock, but from what you've said, your mother is a democrat. If she believed in any of the following: reducing the government, moving education to the private sector, letting the free markets set wage (bye-bye minimum wage), "protecting" marriage, restricting abortions, then I would be more inclined to think that she is a republican (because those are republican ideas).

I don't understand why you don't understand where "delusional" comes into play, unless you don't believe that anyone associated with the Republican party while supporting the quintessential platform qualifies them as delusional, which wouldn't paint you in a very smart light. (See? Pointless arbitrarily demeaning sentences don't help a discussion, so don't do it.(it really doesn't paint you in a very smart light))

most are evangelical ideas, as with any grouping that encompasses a third of the nation there will not be a uniformity of beliefs. libertarian ideas, and let us be frank though they may no longer dominant the party they are still far more welcome among Republicans than Democrats, would be very different.

there are prochoice Republicans and prolife Democrats, neither are necessarily delusional. both can subscribe to the core tenets of their affiliation but come to a different conclusion than the majority

you are correct though that parties change and may abandon principles they once held alienating many who once aligned themselves. as Reagan famously said he did not leave the Democratic party, the party left him
