When I read the passage in the OP, my mind immediately went to that picture that popped up around Christmas time of a bunch of teenagers complaining about how their parents got them the wrong Apple product, or didn't love them because they didn't get an iPod/iPhone for Christmas. Spoiled kids with no respect for their parents need to be taken down a few notches, so I think what the father did in this situation is acceptable. Nobody got hurt (aside from the father's wallet), and the girl hopefully learned a valuable lesson about what she does and does not post about in a public-manner on the internet.

No they won't. My little brother is the baby of the family. He was spoiled rotten by my mother. He's only 2 years younger then me and still acts like a child. Dad won't pay $5000 for him to go on an international vacation with friends? Tantrum, door slamming, foot stomping, silent treatment ensues. Longest job he's held is 2 weeks with Tim Hortons (Robins of Canada). Regularly bums money off my mom.

You don't discipline kids during their teenage years, they will grow up snobbish, spoiled people who believe things should be done their way. Just because they're kids is not an excuse. I know a lot of kids ages 10 to 15 who are more mature then the 15 year old daughter. Why? Because they have parents who actually give a damn.

That dude seemed like an overbearing douche to me. Maybe it's just the southern thing, but getting that upset over some profanity and perceived "disrespect" is ridiculous. We also have no idea who is "more" correct in their version of the story. However, if the girl is even remotely close to telling the truth with all the things she's expected to do, she is fully within her right to get annoyed with being disparaged by saying "you don't have a job and are therefore lazy" when she is apparently doing the equivalent of work and school already.

Also, his explanation of the daily list of chores makes me highly suspicious that he is a mega-douche. She's been gone at school all day, but if the people at home have made a mess on the counters, she's expected to clean it up. Are the people who made said mess incapable of cleaning up after themselves? It'd be one thing if she was going around trashing the house, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I take neither side in this argument, I am simply very skeptical that he is being completely truthful (his description of everything he was doing when he was 15, for instance).

I don't doubt it by his age and his accent. The internet has done strange things to our youth. Even I would be pretty damn frustrated as a modern parent and I'm nowhere near as out of touch as most parents-of-teenagers are.

He said he moved out at 15, lived on his own, worked, went to high school AND college simultaneously. This is logistically impossible.

Not really. If you're imagining him doing everything he listed in one day, yeah impossible. But not if you actually think about it. I know a few people who moved out at 16, stayed in school, and held a job all at the same time. The only thing they would have to do is add a college course onto that (you can easily take college courses while in high school, he didn't say full time college student) and volunteer at a fire dept once in a while and they would have been doing what he claimed he was. And he could say he worked 5 jobs if he wanted and it would still be easily possible. There are plenty of people who have jobs where they only work one day a week and have to get another one to help out.

One of my friends had a similar sort of reaction. he wasn't doing jack squat around the house, and was skipping school. So the dad took him out back, and broke his N64 with a sledgehammer, Office Space-style. The point was taken.

These arguments about 'spoiled/not spoiled' are complete whooshes. You don't post drama with your parents on the internets - period. Dad could have just taken the laptop away for ever, but it's 'dad's' laptop, technically. Plus, shooting electronics is always fun to see.

I did a fuck ton more chores then her while growing up and who is more likely to exaggerate and blow things out of proportion, a 15 year old bitching on facebook or her Dad who can speak properly and has a solid job? Sweep a couple rooms, wipe a counter, make your bed and do your laundry is weak as shit. I had a job at 15, while going to school and doing way more chores.

Even if she had to do all the chores SHE listed, she is still a lazy little bitch. High school isn't that hard that she can't do some chores but instead she was wasting her time posting on facebook.

Wipe counters; 5m.
Sweep a couple rooms; 10m.
Do laundry; 15m per load. 5 putting it in, switching it to dryer, 10m folding/putting away.
Make her bed; 30s, Make 5 beds in the house; 5m (I'll include walking time)

35m of chores? Maybe an hour if you are a slow lazy ass little bitch whinging to your friends about it? Shit, she could do all those chores while bitching about it on the phone with a friend. Some spoiled ass little bitches.
