Before the stopper patch that was introduced thanks to the QQ on the OF, they seriously expected you to reach exactly F100 too. Honestly they are going to remove all the gear gotten when people got 1/1 on guessing lamp, that's my guess.
Too much work. Probably will just reach for the banhammer like they usually do.
Just missing Niki from this thread
So people think we have another 1-22-2009 incoming, judging from what I read on forums and hear in game. How is SE going to do this though? Check old logs and ban everybody that ever got a piece of gear from a successful run where they went 1/1 on order lamps? Or ban everyone with nyzul gear? Ban NAs and EUs only? Or just take an approximate half of all players with nyzul gear and ban them? To the best of my knowledge this has been client side only and unless people talked openly about it in party/ls chat during runs how can they possibly know if people used lamp dats or not?
I'm finding it a little hard to believe they'd shoot themselves in the foot like that when this game is 10 years old and half the servers are gone - by issuing mass bans like they did with salvage. But then again, it's SE we're talking about and they do as they please, I guess.
What's up with all the hyperlinks? I wouldn't be surprised if they did a mass banning tbh, the JP always get their way when they complain.
Hyperlinks are a new feature on BG (FFXI forums). We're testing this out and planning on adding terms/revising terms picked up.
It seems unlikely any bans will happen, a few reasons: Using the word "bug" is a nice PR way of saying exploit and by not simply saying "exploit" or "cheat" it helps them to remove focus and if they do patch it they then can feel like the job is done.
It is going to be hard to prove cheating since it is client side. Even if they did somehow use "hash tags" as someone mentioned it would be easy to bypass them by downloading the BG update torrent.
Keep in mind there is a boxed expansion coming out, last thing they want to do is ban a ton of people then see even more leave due to people's friends being gone.
The simpliest thing is to "fix" the lamp issue it self and then move on. Truth is however only time will tell.
Would laugh if I was banned after not having an active account for however many months, lol
Salvage stuff was a bug too.
Just incase anyone forgot the number of bans handed out that day. Seems alot smaller than I recall though.Handling Misconduct (Jan. 22)
In November 2008, we discovered an issue that allowed players to create multiple items for certain treasures and rewards in areas such as Salvage and Assault by exploiting the game system.
The issue was fixed during emergency maintenance on November 26, 2008. However, we discovered that some players had already exploited the issue and used it to gain additional items before it was addressed. We then investigated more than a year's worth of logs throughout all areas.
As a result of the investigation, approximately 400 players were temporarily suspended based on the evidence gathered. Approximately 550 players who committed more serious misconduct had their accounts banned.
We are working hard to ensure that these kinds of issues do not occur again in FINAL FANTASY XI. However, if you discover any problems with the game system, please submit a GM call or fill out the feedback e-mail form to report the problems to us, instead of exploiting or spreading the issue.
We thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
That was all hush hush though, tons of people know about the .dat lamp swaps so I'd bet the number is going to be a lot larger if anything is done.
It was 1000 people all of the same group/community though.
Not to mention, the bans didn't stop with Salvage. 2009 kept the ball rolling strong in that front.
I hate the that guy but Seriously? The company that wont act on anything unless they see it first hand, is suddenly gonna ban people off logs that show no proof of foul play unless your really really stupid?
EDIT This isn't even a bug, glitch, or whatever their trying to call it like salvage. All its just people changing how data is displayed on your client.
So just reading though the pol thread and I have a question. According to google, one JP said something to the effect of:
Penalties for Japanese users quickly.
Almost no penalties for overseas users, this is a famous story in the Vana.
Has this ever been then case?
The only time that happened was in 2002 and when COP was released and they were buying/selling Barone gear from NPCs.
