Considering I was one of the original people spamming ADL and did so for a long period of time back when you were probably complaining about how broken it was; I'm pretty sure I have a VERY good idea what I'm talking about.
When did this become about what I'm trying to do in game? Obviously if you read my original post, I haven't been playing recently anyway and whenever I did play, it was never to make money. However, given the situation you had yourself in, which was basically a choice of $10K and perpetual glow IG that doesn't really do much else; it's a pretty easy decision at this point in the game. I had even considered mythic glow myself, but this is the same argument I kept coming back to; if I was going to put in that much effort, it'd be much more useful turned into either cash or not even putting in that much effort to a dying game in the first place, which is what I settled on.

There are donation bans (and unbans). Also, Pchan has been banned before (a really long temp, it was funny), it expired. To be perfectly honest it's really not worth getting worked up over. Just about anyone who posts here knows I give him shit, and always have because he talks out his ass a lot, but he's perfectly harmless. He makes the occasional good point and is good for a laugh otherwise.

To be fair I think the point he's trying to make is that any accusation of wasting time or resources on a video game can very easily be flipped around to become a discussion about the opportunity cost of playing video games period. In the end it's all the same - the hundreds of hours we've each put into FFXI could have been spent in a more 'productive' manner (but let's not get philosophical), so there's no sense in ragging on one person in particular for how they've chosen to use their time.

Best just to move on and not get worked up over what pchan says. After all, this is the person who "heard" from someone, took that hearsay as fact, and then argued here that COR resets are more efficient than sending all 2 hour folks to MMM for resets.

For those of you having trouble, the most important advice I can give you is to try to get your average time/floor down to about 90 seconds. Aim for gradually decreasing your average time/floor to a set goal and work on that. This is what immensely helped my group and why we have finished all pieces we've needed, been able to finish some mule/2nd character pieces, and obtain some for friends. Part of this included our pimped out MNK (well he didn't have a glowy weapon, does that count?) switching to WAR, getting 85 Ukon in a week, so we could Fell Cleave kill all floors and get our time down. Part of this included a clear plan of attack for certain floor types. Part of this included using our temps more often - I don't think we relied on our temps, especially sprinters and cleric's very efficiently at the beginning. The biggest part of it was simply becoming a team so we did not waste time asking stupid questions about what our plan would be when we faced a certain floor type.

There were some outright ridiculous runs that we had no chance of winning. 5 kill 5 floors that are massive suck out a huge chunk of time. Sometimes, we won by the skin of our teeth. 20 minutes to get to floor 50 and then 10 minutes from 50 to 100! One time we lost by about 10 seconds. Another time we won but lost 2 thaumas hats and phorcys legs in one run. We also had a run with 5 minutes left.

So my advice to you if you're starting out is to get a team that you trust and work through the bad luck. If you trust each other and you're above average in competence and at least average in gear, you'll start winning, but it will take some frustrating bad luck to get to that point. Imagine luck is like a referee. You need to try to make that a non-factor, as much as possible.

To be fair, I think this is a valid argument as stated too. You might as well click the Total Time spent playing the game, and marvel at the money you COULD have made or other stuff you COULD have done. I no longer click on that because it's scary! I have had this same debate with other people in game. If you view everything in terms of opportunity cost, you will drive yourself crazy. Personally, I would not invest that amount of time to be glowy, but there you have it.

Also to be fair, the whole 25 days for 1 Nyzul piece should be put into some perspective. 25 runs at 30 minutes a run is 750 minutes total, or 12.5 hours. I am 100% positively sure that some of you have spent 12.5 hours in total for one piece of gear, whether it came from ye olden days camping HNM or ye golden days doing Magian trials or spamming Voidwatch for that rare Pulse piece. Obviously, not all 15 of the NNI pieces are worth this time, but some might be for some people.

This is separate and apart from the issue of whether you NEED to spam Level 80. I agree that it isn't necessary when Lv. 100 is achievable, as Nynja just posted. But it IS a viable alternative for some groups.

In fairness, I don't look at anything in XI as real money lost. The subscription fees for XI are by far the best value for money I've ever spent if you base it on money spent to time entertained ratio. Sure if I had worked those hours instead I'd be swimming in cash scrooge style but I already work 50-60+ hour weeks so no way would I work in my XI playtime hours too.

Hell, before I got married (or took my job seriously), not playing XI just meant spending 5-7 days a week in the pub pissing away money. Or doing other expensive shit like buying games or going to the casino, etc. So playing XI actually saves me a ton of money.


More on topic, I think level 80 is only worth spamming if your group cannot reach 100 normally. Or let's just put it in raw terms. You need lower than a 4% success rate at 100 before spamming 80 is equal to it.

This is assuming you'll hit floor 80 every time though? It'd be pretty rare, but there are some runs where you just wont even hit 80 (see my previous bitch fest).

Yeah. I was just basing it off hitting 100 1/25 runs and hitting 80 25/25 runs. But what you say is true. That obviously discounts the fact you will hit 80 sometimes on your 100 runs and also get additional 100 drops just for killing (although at 80 you will at least get the +3 gear to tide you by with)

Everything you do in this game can be translated to, "well why didn't you just make x-amount of money irl, stupid?". Cherrypicking that into applying only at high amounts is silly. More so when you throw a "dead game" at the end of it, as if that was ever an intelligent response.

It's even worse when you realise the guy you are arguing with is likely cheating at a video game that is "dead" lol and probably has about the same playtime as you. Like I said in other forums, 1 mythic is 2 twice longer than a glowing relic if you are as good as me, and 1 relic soloed on bst is probably 2 to 3 x longer.

dvalih jonah was killed 3238 times
archaic rampart was killed 28233 times

Assuming you average 18 jumps, that all of the 6 members are using GW, that killall floors are 25% rate (only reason to kill rampards), and that only one person sees a rampart being killed during those floors (which is likely since you split), that's a win rate of 3238/((28233/4.5))/6=8.6%. So that's likely the actual rate that cheaters are experiencing, and this is likely still acounting the ability to guess order 100% since the fix was only recent.
