like i mentioned, i definitely agree drops contribute to the traffic needed to sustain a contents popularity, but it isn't something that everyone is always interested in. most of the time i think people fall into the situation where the events they do isn't the most fun or the most rewarding, but a combination of both, to give them some sense of satisfaction.
i personally have a lot of events that i enjoy doing in FFXI but won't purposely repeat for the sake of fun.. i think its something like..
people who want drops are usually the ones who start events, and if there enough of those people, then they comprise the whole group..
but if not, then its the people who do it for fun who follow through. the ones who are like 'oh i don't need anything but ill join you guys'. maybe fun isn't the best word to sum it up, but theres a satisfaction derived from it.
and another reason that people who simply do it for fun aren't likely to start events is because playing MMORPGs is goal oriented. i may like nyzul but if im working on gear from elsewhere i'd probably go and do that first.. its a time prioritization thing i guess. it isn't just an mmo thing. you see this IRL all the time.
..ok fine, not legendary weapons.. but i was under the impression Nyzul was intended to be as hardcore as legion, but in 6man party instead of 18. as in, different content for different party sizes.
I see Nyzul Uncharted as being something which is less farming, more striving... Maybe it's a bit on the severe side, but i like its direction.
Anyway you can bet on it being gradually easier with time even if they didn't tweak the event, when they introduce merits raises, new eq, new 2hrs etc.
