This is a game design philosophical debate that will always have 2 sides, MMO or not.

Side A believe that some games should just be too hard for some people to do everything
Side B believes that time, usually large amounts, plus skill should eventually result in obtaining everything.

I've always been on side B, but sometimes it leads to shitty games where I feel like Side A is right. The big problem is that, other than during the age of Abyssea, FFXI's entire dev history has always been Side A .... the problem is they do Side A WRONG, by only SIMULATING Side A by introducing far more luck than even the most hardcore Side A supporter can stand.

In regard to the side-chatter, I don't want a game that entirely cockblocks terrible players, because a playerbase of only upstanding individuals is both unrealistic and boring, but some degree of reward for playing optimally is desirable.

Sounds good to me. I think it has to be a high requirement otherwise everyone will just set stopper at 80 and farm the shit out of it for 100 drops.

Since the message clearly mentions that you'd get a token for every boss floor you cleared a certain amount of times and not be lucky on double/triple drop boss which you can trade in for tokens to get shit you do want, you would actually consider 100 days (at the least) of Nyzul tags a good system for 1 armor piece? You can make a lv99 relic faster than that.

And inb4 Nyzul is only 30mins, you get the point.

Yes I would. Because I don't think every pickup punter should be getting high level nyzul gear.

Personally, I think clearing a boss about 20 times for a piece from the next boss up would be fair. If you struggle to reach F60 say, I think grinding 3 weeks for one F60 piece from F40 bosses would be reasonable.

However, I still think that the only way to get F100 armour should be to actually beat F100. I don't think you should be able to trade in F80 tokens for F100 armour.

The wording makes me think that this is the intention. It isn't 100% clear but that is due to some loss in translation I think. It seems they are seperating floor 100 gear, but I don't guess we can do anything except wonder until its changed.

Now for them to change Askar set back to what was originally in the dats, current set isn't that exciting to me.

3 weeks is a whole different ballpark than 3 months, which your original post implied. Three months for 1 piece of armor is "classic Tanaka".

As for you not wanting noobs to get the gear, clearing floor 80 reliably still requires effort most noobs can't be arsed to, even if it is set to 20 times, so that shouldn't be an issue or SE just sticks to that other idea of picking 1 item if you clear floor 100 just once and no upgrade from 80 clears, works too. That won't stop the rage about PC having an advantage over consoles (when did it not lol), but at least it would be less gay than hoping floor100 would even put out your item the few times you do get to that floor.

Oh yes, I was commenting on the general idea of "it should take a while or be difficult". Not on the actual quoted 3 months. I honestly think 20 runs would be fair if you stop and consider the types of players who would be farming each floor.

Some gimp-ass war in full-pearl or some other shit would probably be happy with some F40 drops, and an F60 drop would be an awesome piece of gear for him. Knowing that he can get a piece of awesome (relative to his current gear) gear of his choice every 3 weeks should keep him happy. When you consider how long it takes to get other things in FFXI, 3 weeks for an awesome drop of your choice (relative to your current gear) is very good.
The same applies to a mediocre player who's pretty good and can hit F60 reliably (with stopper) but not hot enough to farm F80 - F80 gear would likely be fantastic upgrades over his other slots, hell certain F80 gear is already fantastic upgrades for very well geared players - Rheic Dirs +3 for Drg or Drk for example are a fantastic piece. I would be happy spending 3 weeks saving tokens for them and my group is regularly getting to 80 and above, imagine someone who's less well geared and only realistically hitting F60.

I have to assume that if you are wearing pearle gear you are new to the game. Anyone can build a better basic set than perle pretty quickly, technically if you had a day free to play ffxi you could get all AF3+1. Even a casual player who is focused will get that and more in a shorter time than doing Nyzul in perle to start. That said in some ways this event is a positive event in that it can involve a sense of gear progression. However, I can't see anyone other than people who are either really stupid or really terrible locking below 80. Its fun playing this pretend game where gear below 60 is worth a fuck to anyone.

Too bad of course that Askar got gimped the most of the initial sets found in the dats. Shit in the dats was amazing, once I saw the finalized gear I was much less excited about it.

Didn't get it exactly, but it's around 4-6%. I'd think it's either 0/2.5/5/7.5/10 or 0/2/4/6/8 for the cap sets - or they're all 5.

Because content shouldn't be catered towards the lowest common denominator. Paying for the game shouldn't automatically give you a free pass to obtaining everything.

If I went out and bought Guitar Hero 17 or whatever the fuck it's up to, I shouldn't automatically be entitled to platinum the game. Just because I am terribad at Guitar Hero games shouldn't mean the developers should dumb down the content to my level so that I can have all the shinies.

Paying for the game gives you the right to play/attempt the content. Not the right to be successful regardless of skill level.

With the stop and voucher systems, I think aiming for 100 equipment will be no problem for a dedicated group. I might get my feet wet before then, but I think I'll hold off any hardcore spamming until then.
