Fighting harder mobs does seem to increase rate of spiritbond. Whether its from the bigger xp gain, killing a higher lv mob, or bonus gains for speed of kill and chaining, its hard to pinpoint. But you can easily max out a few pieces of lv 50 gear in an hr or two grinding safehold.

I'm not sure why R50 wouldn't receive boosted exp. If it mattered at all, it would only be for purposes of spiritbonding... and to be frank, a player that is exping solely for spiritbond should bond faster than a player who is also ranking up.

Okay, since this discussion is continuing, I will elaborate on what I meant.

It is my assumption that spiritbond is similar to exp, but beyond being affected by monster level and base exp, they are calculated separately. I assume the spiritbond calculation looks something like this:
    Spiritbond = ( Monster_base_exp * Monster_level ) * ( 1 + (Spiritbond_bonus/100) ) * ( min(Item_level,Player_level) / Item_level )

If you make the assumption that spiritbond matches exp gain, you run into weird situations. More people joined your party, and you're now getting less exp per kill. Should you be getting less spiritbond? You consumed an exp bonus food or craft/gather exp bonus book. Should you be getting more spiritbond? And the main thing... You're fighting a monster that gives you no exp. Should you be getting zero spiritbond?

I'd be fine if they made spiritbond match exp, but since fighting 0 exp monsters still gets you spiritbond, I'm inclined to believe that they're complete separate calculations. I'd also be fine if they made rested exp bonus affect your spiritbond gain, but since they specifically say that you won't use up your bonus on Lv50 jobs, I'm inclined to believe that any form of exp bonus does not affect your spiritbond gains. Plus, if you look at the lore behind spiritbond... why would it? I also don't think that a player exping solely for the purposes of spiritbond should get additional spiritbond; that opinion is also due to the lore behind spiritbond.

Given that you don't need exp to get spirit bond I'd hazard it's a simple dlvl check on the mob/synth/node you're killing/making/harvesting with item level somewhere in the equation.

It would be fairly simple to check if a bit time consuming. Kill static level mobs (quest mobs would be ideal) solo till a given item (say, a ring) goes from 0-100%, repeat in a group.

If it takes the same number of mobs in both situations (give or take a few, I've had gear equipped for the same exact amount of activity reach 100% bond a mob or two apart, probably some decimal rounding going on) then SB is independent of exp.

Well we could test that theory by wearing a level 1 piece of gear and killing a rainbow basilsk I guess. The spiritbond level should rise really fast then yes? I was giving this some thought yesterday before I realized how hard it would be to kill one of those now.

Meh, yet another underwhelming addition by SE. For once I'd like them to exceed the expectations and wow us.

Yes, for exactly the same reason you get less exp per kill: you can (theoretically) now kill faster, or kill harder mobs.

You consumed an exp bonus food or craft/gather exp bonus book. Should you be getting more spiritbond?
I'm not sure bonus exp is in the spiritbond formula, but if it is, I'm fine with it. I mean, you gain zero spiritbond from quest exp reward, so...

And the main thing... You're fighting a monster that gives you no exp. Should you be getting zero spiritbond?
Well, purportedly you gain spiritbond from leves that are too low to grant exp, as well as from fighting Ifrit and dying (gaining 0 exp), so I don't think it would be inconsistent for 0 exp mobs to give some tiny amount of spiritbond.

That being said, if the formula is something like ([tiny base amount per kill + (exp * multiplier)] + [tiny base amount per successful leve synth + (synth exp * multiplier)] + [tiny base amount per equipment durability lost + (durability loss * multiplier)], I wouldn't be surprised.

If the equation is what I posted, then yes, you could easily check it that way with some Lv1 gear and Lv50+ monsters, but something tells me the calculation is more complex than that. For example, they probably cap the amount of spiritbond % you can gain from a single kill so you can't blast through the materia achievement. Perhaps the Monster_level modifier is actually something like min(Monster_level,Item_level+10)? Who knows.
Edit: I like SD's example equation better than mine.

It's all theory though. You could run a few tests to determine it, but I don't think it's important enough to actually bother--I certainly don't care enough. I was merely trying to work out their reasoning for not using up the rested bonus while on a 50 job. I'll admit, I didn't really fully think it through.

Interesting SD, I hadn't thought to throw durability into the equation... that makes perfect sense. I always did wonder why my wristlets rarely completed spiritbonding at the exact same time.

Feel like an idiot but looked online and asked in game with no answer: where is the inn in Ul'dah?

Returning player after 1.19 so getting used to a lot of the new additions.

All inns are located in the same building where you pick up leves. Look for the bed icon on your minimap.

I did the ring quest that was given by the NPC near the icon but I still can't manage to enter the inn. Talking to the NPC doesn't give me an options and there's nothing nearby to check.

edit: It seems it is broken in Ul'dah. Oh well.
