Depends on where you are. You can be sued, but in a lot of places it would just get thrown out. In some though, it is not the case.

The article goes on to say it covers first responders too, EMTs and the like.

Even as a certified EMT I generally don't go out of my way to help unless it's serious because I don't trust people and they'll sue anyone they can.
I was on the Metro North and some dumb bitch slipped getting on to the train and dislocated her shoulder and they stopped the train and asked over the announcer if any medical personal were on board. Keep in mind this happened five feet from where I was sitting so I figured 'Alright I GUESS I can help this woman' so I go over and tell them I'm an EMT and tell her to let me have a look, I check her out and then I pop her shoulder back in with her after asking her if she wanted me to. We pop it in, and OBVIOUSLY THIS IS GOING TO HURT WHAT KIND OF DUMB FUCK WOULDN'T THINK SO. I've dislocated my shoulder 6 times now and I need surgery so I know what the fuck.

Anyway this hoe starts yammering about how I fucked it up worse and how shes going to sue me, the on duty EMTs arrive and tell her that her shoulder was fixed - by me - which causes her to shut the fuck up. I don't even get a thanks.
