Now this was awesome(Duh). I always like flashback episodes like these, that try to show how a certain character became the bad-ass he is today, and this episode was a really good realization of that particular concept, almost like a 2-part OVA within the main series which is really dedicated to telling this particular story. Also from a production standpoint Studio Ufotable definitely brings the good in these two part episodes, the difference in tone, the lack of the OP do a good job of setting this away from the main story.

Overall:
An extremely satisfying conclusion to Kiritsugu's backstory and emotionally brutal the whole way through.

I was a little worried that they would mess up on the choreographing that Natalia and Kiritsugu both understood what had to be done. Thankfully they did it right.

The crowning rise to awesome continues. Only gets better from here.

yeah, the whole thing felt like kiritsugu was leading her onto believing it's possible for her to survive, but the fact that she smiled in the end was probably the proof she saw that coming.

while i didnt read the novel, i do feel that the scene may have worked out better if she was the one to tell him to do it as her final lesson to be a professional

Seeing him prep during their conversation kinda hurt the impact of the moment for me. While we're not quite sure he's in New York initially, as the topic shifts to the bees ghouling everyone up, him suddenly hitting the streets and seemingly finding a rocket launcher on the black market just piled on the predictability. While they did their best to try and hide the weapon until he was about to shoot it, maybe I just played too much Metal Gear or something to have guessed what it was.

I dunno, for as little as we knew about her, I just felt like her death could've been avoided. Yeah, I know why he blew up the plane, to basically avoid a repeat of the island, but I feel like some hardass solo merc could've done more even if she wasn't intimate with the plane's controls. Unless the bees don't drown or something, could've tried for a water landing (if 20 minutes out, I'd assume a few hundred miles from shore) and then shot out the front window if things went smoothly enough.

Anyway, their overall relationship and such didn't bother me. Just didn't like that ending even if she seemed okay with it with the smile.
