the manga was relatively outside the comfort zone of most of those crappy series that got animated over the last few years

ie: it wasn't set in high school, and the character design wasn't moe

Gengoroh Tagame's Shirogane no Hana Manga Gets TV Anime

A "prohibited" television anime adaptation of Gengoroh Tagame's gay erotic manga Shirogane no Hana will run in Fuji TV's late-night programming block Noitamina. The anime studio AIC Build is producing the project "with the latest CG techniques." The story revolves around Ginjirō and his explicit sado-masochistic experiences.

The original manga ran in the gay-themed Badi magazine from 1994 to 1999, and three compiled volumes were published. A new edition of the manga is arriving this year.

I can watch a series about a young boy who wanted to cross dress, I don't mind seeing naked roman taking a bath, but "gay erotic manga" is pushing it a little too far.

I thought noitamina was supposed to produce more content for the otaku mass...it's definitively a strange choice.

i'd make an argument of catering to fujoushi, but i doubt tattoed muscular men are what they'd enjoy

or i suppose it's just the more extreme end of the spectrum of gyaku-moe shit like Kaiji
