This is SE so I seriously doubt more than one person will actually win anything of REAL value. It just sounds like another special mob bonanza deals, probably with lower odds since there are so few tickets.

Even putting this recent bs aside. Vanafest is the only thing I'm REALLY looking forward to this summer besides Dark Knight Rises.
That's including E3, EVO, whatever Cons going on, and any and all Puerto Rican park festivals.
I know I may be getting my hopes up but I love SE's "good" surprises.
I would totally buy 1500 HMP plates with crysta. Fuck VW. 99 Armageddon was enough, I'm not doing any more.
If you're going to RMT, just RMT. Don't sugarcoat it with a sanctioned cash shop. lol
Re: Quarter Machines things. I still use them occasionally to buy little Gundam/Pokemon miniatures. You don't always get the one you want but it's very consistent in that it will always give you something of pretty much equal value. SE's version is "Put in quarter, usually get shit." Also it costs ~US$6 per play, that's a real value.

Don't think I can be friends with you.
Aside from the aforementioned "only people going to the show can play", the Japanese hate hypocrites just like anyone else- SE's has always been on a huge crusade against RMT and now they're just blatantly doing it themselves with this sort of thing, not to mention the price is ridiculous on top of that. Why? Sure the "rmt for gear" route is fuckin stupid, atleast they can partake in it! If 70 USD got me 10 dogtags and 10 chances at a "free" mythic or glowy vw item, id do it in a heartbeat, and any of you would too, and im fuckin jobless now. Because the time spent killing a vw nm 200x over toget nothing pales in comparisant to the time youd spen making 70 bucks.
Though personally, I think they fell into that when they made those 3 awful mini-expansions. Those, especially ACP, ruined a bunch of lore so they could sell a piece of equipment to people for $10 each. Whoop-de-shit. At least then they were making some kind of token effort though, I suppose.
My statement was with the original belief of insert 7$, get tag with redeemable code for a 100% chance at reward. The new belief of insert 7$, hope for 1% dog tag has code, hope to win lottery of useful item makes my previous statement invalid.
So RMT voidwatch? $7 per voidstone, with about the same chance of getting Asteria in a Rex pickup?
That's an interesting point. I'd be curious to see how an actual ffxi cash shop would work out, considering the game has been designed for so long not to include one. You look at other games that have the cash shops, and they've all been designed from the get-go to have them... how could they switch after so long, and not alienate the entirety of their remaining player base? The majority of people still slogging through the ffxi muck have all had to earn their accomplishments by beating the economy, the LS popularity contest bullshit, or the random number generator. Winning via credit card wouldn't be much of an accomplishment.
There's nothing in this game that can't be won via credit card already though.
Probably by not making the cash shop your only option for anything that actually matters, or that's directly converted to gil.
For example, selling Traverser Stones or Voidstones. Or Atma/Atmacite sets. Someone relatively new to the game might elect to toss them a few bucks for more Abyssea time and to get Razed Ruins without a fuss.
True, but as an extreme example, if I were to advertise that I was willing to spend 100 million gil (or as a more direct approach, $1000) per ticket for some particular item, I would be willing to bet that I'd find those 5 tickets almost as fast as they would come into existence, across all servers. Which is to say, far faster than someone just doing VW would get the item...
Which I think was the main point of Churchill's post. Money talks.
if you're willing to spend 5k USD to get a mekogai, your name is either Bill Gates, or you have severe delusions towards reality.

Hey if the game brings them that much joy more power to them
Old LS leader on Siren spent 1k$ on Kraken club, so no surprises there.

Item revamp
We have decided to remove the below items from the pool of items that can be received with the purchasable tags:
Bonanza Kupon RW/Bonanza Kupon MW/Bonana Kupon EW
While the amount of these items were such that it would not affect game balance or economic balance, based on everyone’s feedback we decided to remove them.
We apologize to everyone who was concerned or looking forward to this, but we appreciate your understanding.
Also, here is some information about the policies related to this event.
Number of times you can play
Players can only have a single Random Deal each time they play. While there are no limitations on the amount of times a player can play throughout the day, each play will require you to line up again (i.e. play once then move to the back of the line). This is to ensure that everyone has a chance.
Number of metal tags
We’ve prepared a good amount of metal tags, but there is a finite amount for each day, so once the prepared amount for the day runs out the event will close.
To ensure that players coming on the first and second day have a chance to play, there will be separate amounts set aside for each day.
Reselling
The reselling of item codes is prohibited and we ask that you do not do this. In the event that reselling is discovered, the item code will become void or if the code has already been used the item will be taken away.
Also, in order to prevent reselling, the item code expiration dates have been set to a short duration.
We apologize for changing the bonus items after making our initial announcement, but we would like to create an event that a large amount of people can enjoy and welcome everyone after making the properly preparations.
