Super announcement will be that Tanaka is being replaced as director of FFXI by a cat, like that cat, Tama, that is a train station master in Japan. New-director-cat-san will wear a little hat, and children can come to pet him in the lobby. His first regime change: All crafting skills will be replaced with new variants of fishing. Such as fish sawing for furniture, fish weaving for cloth, and fish smelting for metal armor.
I don't get why people think there will be a big announcement of any sort. When they announced Abyssea/Cap increase they had said before the show there would be a "Special announcement" or something similar. I don't remember them saying anything similar this year. I don't think any of you should think of this as anything other than a celebration of a decade of FFXI- wouldn't seem right to not have Vanafest.
They did, actually.
I don't remember them saying anything beyond the generic "it's gonna be a fun event guys" shit that anybody trying to throw a party would say. I don't remember them specifically promising anything special this year.
Yes, there is teasing, but I want to see a source on the debs saying anything similar to what they said the year the announced Abyssea and cap raise. That year they specifically said they would have something very special to show us at Vanafest. This year there's been plenty of teasing but I don't remember them ever saying there would be any sort of groundbreaking announcement.
It was in a thing from the beginning of the year about the 10th anniversary. I think Camate posted it, I don't remember where it was though. He said there was something big he was excited about that was getting announced this year but that "perhaps I've said too much..."
what dates are the vanafest? i don't feel like searching the thread. can it be put in the title?
23rd-24th? At least the thing on the front of BG says the 23rd.
Found the post, maybe: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...-VanaFest-2012!
Announcing Coverage of VanaFest 2012!
Just in case you all missed the official announcement on PlayOnline, the North American Community Team will be making an excursion over to the far eastern lands of Yokohama, Japan to cover VanaFest 2012 scheduled to take place June 23rd-24th!
It's been two years since Devin and Matt from the North American Community Team set out on their adventure to Tokyo to cover VanaFest 2010 for the community. They were able to bring all of the hottest news straight from the development team to the adventurers around the world. In the two years since then, FINAL FANTASY XI has evolved by leaps and bounds and the level cap was raised to 99. Well, they too have leveled up to the max to bring you even bigger and better coverage this year.
Yes, the intrepid duo plan to set out once again on a quest to bring everyone the hottest news, craziest revelations, jaw-dropping-est... things that happen at VanaFest 2012! You better believe that there will be tweets. You can guarantee that there will be videos. And you can bet that there will be contests!
Stay tuned for all of the details as we unravel their plans for the future!
What this didn’t mention is that we will actually be live streaming the whole thing and giving Community Team digests covering the information and exciting things taking place at the event!
Hope you are all looking forward to this and we will be giving you updates as the event draws near!
So they're hyping it up about as much as they do holiday events where you can get a new costume. Yeah, you're totally not setting yourself up for disappointment by expecting something comparable to the level 99 announcement.
I don't see why they'd even host the event if they had nothing to announce that'd require us to throw money at them. I doubt these events are cheap to operate even after you hit your attendance ticket-price quota.

Odin every other run with no required feather mules! Badass!
Am I the only one confused by the statement about the new entry? I can only assume that they are making it so that you need only one feather from each wing, however it doesn't distinctly say one from each. It just says "in possession of the valkyrie feather key items from each of the three Wings." It could also be assumed from that statement that you'll need all feathers from each with and the only thing they are changing is the ability to purchase KIs.
Also Byrth, why are you saying Odin every other run? Couldn't you just purchase all the KIs and do them every run? I know plenty of people like me who have 400k+ ampoules.
You certainly could, but you'd still net-positive Ampuoles if you alternated.
I figure they have to be saying you only need three feathers total for all of your people (no more feather mules), or it wouldn't be a revision at all... unless they meant "reversion" and we're back to everyone needing 9. Either way, they need to get better translators.
Exactly- there's nothing in that post other than "There's gonna be lots of exciting things going on guys!", which is something they say about everything. The year they announced Abyssea they specifically said there was going to something special announced rather than a generic "lots of exciting announcements to come". I'm not saying there won't be anything announced, it's just a bad idea to expect anything when nothing was really promised.
RE: Neo Einherjar. They're changing Odin V.1 so that you only need one feather from each wing from the sound of it. So yes, no more feather mules.
