I'm sure they were old-ish, the test server hasn't been updated in a while. That being said, it would only take two or three fully rendered areas to make a reasonable looking trailer, I highly doubt they would want to reveal all the areas in the game with a teaser trailer.

Abyssea was announced at Vana'fest the year they released it, wasn't it? Just a couple months before the first one came out.

I'm fairly sure this will be a full (but not necessarily boxed) expansion. Just from the quantity of new areas alone, it seems too much content for a scenario, considering the old scenarios either added exactly zero new areas, or only re-lit areas with a red sky.

I don't think new jobs are necessarily a great idea either, but with the precedent they've established, I don't see them doing a full expansion without new jobs (and new jobs always generate excitement, even if they wind up sucking in the end, especially if they pull the nostalgia trick with something like time mage).

all 3 Abysseas were filed on Feb 25, announced on Feb28, 2010 at Vanafest.

USPTO's listing appears to have a lag time in updating, somewhere around 3-4 days, so an Adoulin listing is not available for immediate comparison.

i'm pretty sure they'll show off a trailer somehow. even if its a gist of whats to come

While the idea of a new expansion/jobs has me intrigued, I just can't see myself paying $60 a month again for FFXI... Maybe if they eliminate mule fees and only charge us on a per account basis rather than a per character basis, but even at $12 a month it's more expensive than most other MMOs out there (I pre-paid for a year of TERA at $8 a month, and I get to have 8 characters). The monthly fees aren't even going to support development as much as they should be, they are still going to repair the damage done by the release of FFXIV and their attempt to reboot it. I'll be tuning in to the webcast like everyone else, but they have their work cut out for them if they want to convince me and others like me to return to the game.

The first abyssea was released then in June, I think? With Scars coming in September and Heroes in December? If this new expansion is conceivably the size of those three add-ons combined then we should expect the release to be sometime this fall to early next year, I'd assume.

I'm getting more and more of an urge to come back and this might tip the scales just enough. I tried to stick it out with XIV, but it's just so awful. I logged in for the first time in months last night and got so frustrated in the first 10minutes I logged off. It's really that bad. Tried Tera, it's neat for a week or two (like most MMOs coming out today). Rift, WoW, etc all fall into that same category. GW2 has a lot of potential...just like every game before it's release.

I know it seems better with the nostalgia factor than it really is, and an absurd amount has changed...but I think it might be the only one I'd enjoy if only for that.

Also, I think someone showed earlier in this or the dev thread that they hired 10ish new developers for ffxi. If they've been working on a full expansion for the past few months, I can excuse the lack of content lately lol.

As far as people thinking about whethers its an add-on or w/e (like ACP and abyssea) or a full expansion, I'd actually be very happy with something inbetween. Not as widescale as ToAU was, maybe half the zones, and a story that will be finished in a year. But only if it means they plan on doing like 1 every year to year and a half or something. That way theyd be able to flesh out the entire world, give people the story they want, give people new zones and shit they want, give people a new event relating to the expansion every year. It's the only way they would ever be able to bring us to all of vandeil I think, unless ffxi is gonna be around for another 10 years lol.

Although i doubt they would do it that way. Most likely a full expansion.

So it looks like there will be a new add on or expansion and it'll most likely be called "Seekers Of Adoulin". It's starting to gain some media attention too!

That's kinda what I was referring to above when I said new jobs generate excitement. I mean... come on, that was just PUP, lol. Like I said, if they pulled the nostalgia card with something like time mage (or geomancer or anything else from previous FF games), I think they'd get cheers like that even out of a JP crowd.

If they announce Chemist I'll cry...then say I told ya so to all my friends who still play lol. I would like to imagine the cheers would far exceed the ones in that video for any of the new jobs mentioned if they were announced.

This was WAY more epic than PUP because the Flan was cockblocking with interrupts for added suspense.

The best part was when the crowd chanted "TWO HOUR! TWO HOUR!" because even if they showed Azure Lore, nobody would know what it does lol. People cheering like crazy for Wild Oats is fucking lol.

But ya know, it's all gravy. The very thought of having a new expansion for this game I've sunk so much of my life into, even met some of the best friends a guy could have in, gets me all tingly.
