Probably because it starts in Japan at 9:30am June 23, which happens to be tonight (June 22) in the US (5:30 Pacific, 8:30 Eastern). It's definitely today, yes... a little over 6 more hours. Granted, if they have a big announcement to make, which they obviously do given the not-likely-to-be-coincidental trademark timing and the test server stuff, I'm sure it won't come for an hour or two into the show (at least), so they have some time to get people hyped up first.

The developer talk is at 7:00 PM PST, about 2 hours into the fanfest. The 'bomb drops' will likely come in the middle/tail end of that part of the talk, then again last Vanafest they got right into the big changes after a quick talk among the developing staff. The dramatic "Leveled to 76" reveal was like 10 minutes into that part once everyone got on stage.

I just re-watched that and it was so anti-climactic. The guy dinged 76 and I don't think half the audience knew what was going on until someone on stage with a mic was like "Oh!" pretending to be excited and stuff, lol.... and then Tanaka started talking and deflated the whole thing pretty swiftly. Hopefully they have their demo or reveal a little better planned this time, perhaps with a little less Tanaka involved.

There is going to be two streams online. The Japanese one is going to be showing the stage live while the English Community one is going to do a recap of the stages events in a format we will understand (English). I don't know if they are doing the tweets this year or not but my guess is probably not since they are going to do that special broadcast a half hour after the main event ends. The tweets were also badly behind the broadcast and it was usually easy enough to just listen to someone else talk about the stuff on the forums XD.

Biggest rimitation for PS2 atm are the BSOD's. That will never get fixed. Anything else is just side-stepping the issue.

Hard drive space isn't the limitation, RAM is, which can never be expanded. They've only been using about 25% of the PS2 HDD for a long time. Expanding the partition has been an option, there was just the concern of competing for space with other JP games that require the HDD, like Nobunaga's Ambition Online, and other POL Viewer games they had in the past like Front Mission Online and Dirge of Cerberus.

Actually if the past is any indication, if there is an announcement it will come in the opening ceremony.

It was supported way more in Japan though, they some kind of broadband kit that gave them access to a bunch of web enabled apps and stuff.

By "about to abandon direct X 8" do you mean, not include support for it in Windows 9? I assume it's covered in Windows 8, and that's barely out yet.

I thought DirectX's were generally backwards compatible. Vista shipped with DX10 for instance.
